Nissan latest - Asking suppliers to pause payments..

ATM, cheap retail prices. You can actually buy a brand new Altima SV for less than 25K. I thought about it seriously, but then had a change in plans.

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

Until this accident I didn't either.

The used car market is tough. I need to change my approach.

I would imagine that the aftermarket will come up with workarounds. Still, It is hard for me to wrap my head around so much complexity being applied to what should be a dirt simple part. Bad enough when the industry began making lighting units as one piece with no replaceable lens.

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

Agreed, the Indians should be more forthcoming about the details of their investigation to date, particularly when we're looking at a widely followed and seemingly inexplicable disaster.

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

That may or may not be a reasonable comparison. Neither of us have any information as to why the data recorders were not downloaded more quickly. We can only engage in what might be innocent or might be invidious speculation.

Nissan latest - Asking suppliers to pause payments..

I really doubt that the Japanese will allow Nissan to go extinct. This was the reason that Honda was being encouraged to take on Nissan as a junior partner, which Nissan objected to. One way or another, Nissan will survive and hopefully prosper, very much as GM went from the bottom of the...

    The future of vehicles....

Yeah, points were not a big deal nor was timing. I still have my timing light and dwell meter from way back when. Carburetor rebuilds weren't that much of an issue and I even rebuilt the Keihin three bbl on our '76 Civic with no issues. Just follow the instructions and be rewarded with a much...

Microsoft claims AI diagnostic tool can outperform doctors

I'm sure this is true just as it's true that Tesla FSD can outperform a human driver except when it doesn't. I think we need to understand that AI is in no conventional sense Intelligent. It's no more nor less than a meta search engine that can quickly spit out an answer based entirely upon what...

The used car market is tough. I need to change my approach.

You remember when cars started getting totaled out due to the cost of airbag replacement? Who could have imagined vehicles being totaled out for taillight damage, but we may be there. I'm sure the Georgian salvage vehicle buyers will find a workaround and the streets of Moscow will be flooded...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

An indication of inadequate maintenance practices or just a random event?

...and, GE also made the FDR/CVR.

The used car market is tough. I need to change my approach.

That is utterly insane. From this example, I'd have to say that Ford's market decline is deserved, although GM and whatever the other major pickup seller is calling itself these days are probably no better. What's going to happen when these trucks are ten to fifteen years old and are on their...

Air India Flight AI171 (Boeing 787-8) Crash

I dunno, downloading the CVR and FDR is probably a little more complicated than sticking a flash drive in your PC. With US NTSB, Boeing and GE involved, I'd doubt that there is any likelihood of any coverup and the Indians probably see no need nor advantage in a supernumerary from ICAO getting...

    Dealership negotiations...

I think we saw a fundamental change due to Covid. It was truly a buyer's market prior to 2020, but quickly turned into one where dealers discovered that not only could they get sticker for what they had to sell but that they could even mark that up 10 or 20% and those needing a replacement car...

    Reclaimed Oil for push mower.

I guess I can't really see the point of reusing oil in a push mower that takes maybe 20 oz. The savings just aren't there and the amount of effort involved certainly outweighs any savings involved in using this inferior product. I'd file this one under either the penny wise and pound foolish or...

Post your Gas Mileage : Calculated

HAH, 414 miles on 8.7 gallons, so 47.6 mpg. This tank was about half highway and the AC was on for its entirety, but still pretty bad. Worst summer tank I've seen in at least the last couple of years.

Original VW Beetle Fuse Marked 15/8

I'll take a SWAG. Maybe 15 amps @6V and 8 amps @12V, since over a wide enough number of years a VW could be either.

Anyone Here With A Reverse Mortgage

I would think that a HELOC would be a better deal for most. Probably more cash available and the homeowner could draw it down as needed although they would also have to pay on the note each month. Downsizing is a possibility but with all expenses considered might be hard to make work. I would...

    The future of vehicles....

These were some attractive cars and you can actually take the era of GM building nice looking cars into the seventies. This was also the Bill Mitchell era and I would imagine he'd be embarrassed by the look of most of GM's current offerings.
