PQIA tests ten 5W-20s - one gets an Advisory

Until a trend is established via additional future sampling and testing, there is no reason to believe that QSAD, PYB, and Valv NextGen findings, either exceptional or disappointing, are any more than aberrations of some sort. Now have consistently similar results over the next several months...

Does anyone still use "dry gas"?

I've only added it in my summertime windshield washer fluid when the cold weather starts and i have a summertime fluid in there. Not to gasoline in years.

    more woodworking: making pockets

Problems I came across were: 1) Since I do not have a dedicated shop, slight misalignments occur between rail and styles. To reset bits I ran various scrap, but it's nearly impossible to get it perfect. I think if you know a shop that has a 36" wide sander, it would be worth a couple of bucks...

    more woodworking: making pockets

I made most of the doors in my house and I do not have a dedicated workshop so it can be done. They are 2 panel rather than the three panel shown, but it's all the same process, just the upper rail removed. The tools I used were: 3/4" bar clamps, Shop Fox 2hp shaper but a table mounted 2+hp...

G-OIL 5W-20 Bio-based Adv Full Synthetic SM VOA

I like the G-Oil 5w-30. Everything I have used it in runs well with it and it appears the more recent iterations are more robust than the initial offerings.

Revived an old laptop... what else can I do?

I use a still using Dell D800 from about 2002. Using a Pentium M at 1.7 mhz. Upgraded ram to 1gb, helped alot. Tried out Windows 7 using alot of Vista drivers. Ran, but way too slow. Went back to XP on a fresh install, and it meets most needs. Slow on video and pages w/ alot of ads, but ok for...

    Recommendations for a GM 5.3L V8

Currently running 2 diffrent 5.3. First is a Silverado 99 w/ 187 on the clock consuming little or no oil over 5000+ OCI. Currently running a 50/50 mix of 5w30 Pennzoil Platinum and 10w40 Shell Formula for a heavier 30 weight profile. I have run many different oils (VWB, VNG, VML, GOil, PYB...

New Stihl Gas trimmer, oil questions

If it is a 4mix engine, I'd stick to the Stihl full synthetic. Generic dino has a history of carbon build up at a faster pace. If it is a 2 cycle, I do not think it matters much.

Help me!! Dealer used 5w-30 instead of 0w-20

If fuel losses are your concern, I cannot see where the cost of an additional oil change will be offset by fuel gains. If the weight really concerns you, drain 1/2 qt and replace w/ MMO. It'll be 20wt and maybe you'll get a little cleaning benefit.

    Peak Motor Oil

Used coventional 5w-30 in Explorer 4.0 and conventional 10w-40 Jetta 2.Slo without issue and both ran well. Tried synthetic 5w-30 in Silverado 5.3 and was louder and noisier than anything else I've run thru the Silverado. Not a huge difference, but a difference was there. Also experience a very...

    Weird tranny shift?

Check and see if its 5R55S transmission. I have a 2002 Explorer with a 5R55W tranmission and I think they are very similar. http://downloads.bustedfingermotorsports.com/Ford%20Transmission%20Manuals/5R55W.pdf I have been experiencing w/ the 5R55W a hard 3-4 shift and hard into reverse. After a...

    BITOG: Fact-Based or Mostly Opinion?

Be it primarily fact or opinion, I have learned a ton lurking around here. A critical thinker can certainly sift through the [censored] and find the fact. Really no different than life as a whole.

Came darn close to hitting a deer tonight:

I've hit so many f'ing deer over the last decade, I dont even bother to get the cars/trucks fixed anymore unless its major. As a matter of fact just bounced a fawn off the Saab after testing the ABS to the max two weekends ago. No damage to Saab or fawn, but I'm sure the fawn will feel it got...
