    Wood finish question

Depends on how warm it is. Poly takes forever to cure in the cool and picks up a lot of dust when it's drying. I've found a fine poly finish almost impossible in New England weather (cool and humid). Lacquer needs a lot of ventilation. I can't use it. Shellac dries very fast and is easy to...

Go high mileage or just thicker viscosity?

In Maryland, 1 mile is too old to be running 0w-20. AK, maybe ok. 0w-20 : dinosaur wizz.

2 easy to get greases for home use: name them...

You need some silicon grease to use on rubber and wheel bearing grease. That's it. White lithium grease is good to keep things from rotting if you drive in salt, just smear it on.

    student loan relief

Higher ED is a scam to some extent. Art history, sociology, history, ecology, environmental science, music, the humanities etc. I've been told that there are even too many lawyers. These are all very important fields, but they simply aren't good businesses and people with those skills aren't in...

Driving less, anything to keep car in good shape?

I try to drive my low milage trucks once a week. I don't leave it on, but I exercise the parking brake to keep it freed up. Was changing M1 oil every 5 years or so but changed after 2 or 3 years the last time. Am still kind of thinking that changing the oil before milage expiration is a waste...

    Opinions on 2017 Highlander deal

I paid $50K for my first house in central NY in 1997. It was a small house, two bedrooms. But pretty nice. Attached one car garage, full concrete basement, aluminum siding, newer shingles. Bought a new Geo Metro the same year for $8K. That was a great car.

    Are you aging

Please, if there's spin in nutritionfacts.org I'd love to know about it. Where is it exactly? Show me 1 example. Why doesn't your doctor know about this? Because your doctor spent 10 years going to school to learn to treat disease with drugs, surgery, and chemo. You'r doctor doesn't want to...

    Are you aging

Nissan Versa 5 speed manual 1.6l

This was going to be my next new car. At only $12K new, 5 speed manual trans, and no power locks or windows (a liability to me) I couldn't pass it up. I always buy these bottom of the barrel entry level cars and run them for a couple hundred thousand. They make me a lot of money. But having to...

    Butter...Imported???

I don't know if you know this or not, but dairy products cause cancer. No, you're not going to hear this on the TV news. But that's what the peer review science says. Read it for yourself. http://nutritionfacts.org/topics/dairy/ And believe it or not, American dairy is a lot worse than...

Vehicle Sat Since 2006/7- Need Recommendations

"Tires will be changes, belts, hoses, most likely brake and fuel lines, fuel all drained out, all fluids replaced, new battery, new plugs and coils. Also got a major mildew smell inside the vehicle so I will be cleaning and replacing everything inside." That's a lot of green to drop on a 15...

    Wheel bearings C2,C3,2RS?????

"I jacked up each side of the car and there is some up and down and side to side play but no in and out play in that wheel. It was suggested I have someone hold the brake and repeat the test and if there is no play means the wheel bearing is OK. I really don't understand how that test would tell...

Shop might of caused a leak?

I have never had an axle seal fail. I did have one leak after I reinstalled an axle. I removed the axle and cleaned up the seal surface with scotchbrite very thoroughly. Polished it up. Then cleaned the seal very well and lubed both with lots of new grease. No leak. I must have got some dirt on...

    Saw a Yugo Today

My friend bought a Yugo new. He said it was a great car (he was a cheap guy) but it rusted in just a couple years. I bought two new Geo Metros which both rusted to death after over 10 years and 185K miles. They were still running beautifully when they went to the bone yard. One of them got 51mpg...

Looked at those places a couple times. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Cheap [censored] is what they're selling. Can't actually believe people eat that [censored]. Just about very cell in your body gets replaced every 100 days, about 3 months. The only materials are air, water, and food. And people...
