    Co-Worker's 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage

The 3.0 apparently had faulty valve guide seals, but I have to assume that they only became faulty after some degree of OCI neglect. The only 3.0s that I've ever seen smoking were in vans and Mitsu sedans that looked like they'd been pulling stumps all their lives. Admittedly, it is a design...

    Boiling toothbrush?

I tried this years ago by microwaving a cup of water and dipping the brush in it. The head twisted and warped. So, I just soak the head in a cup of Listerine overnight. I also use Listerine toothpaste, so it's a double-dip the next morning. Ahhhhh....frrrresh.

Anybody run Redline in there daily driver?

This is the only thing preventing me from running Amsoil or Redline in my engine....the 'approval', or 'certification' thing. I'm just not clear what that entails. Is it the API rating? What's missing, exactly? I know that once my warranty is up, I'll probably be switching. To answer your...

    The New GM

I guess it's the same thing that's preventing Ford from offering all their fantastic Euopean diesel products here. I just don't know what that would be. Cost?

My 93 Plymouth Sundance with the Mitsu 3.0 still stands as the most trouble-free car I've ever owned.

    Engine Warmers

In Wyoming, it was completely normal to see 99% of vehicles driving around with a cord hanging out of the grille. Mine did. I used pan warmers for many years and it seemed to make starting and warmup a lot easier on the cars. Most people used block heaters or inline coolant heaters, but I was...

POSITIVE Quick-lube stories - lets hear THOSE!

I actually had a very good experience when I took my brand new 2002 Altima 3.5 SE in for its first oil change. It was freshly washed and lookin' fantastic. Everyone just kinda stopped what they were doing and walked over to have a look at the newly re-designed car. That gave me a good excuse to...

Saturn Sky at my local carmax. Cinder blocks......

During my time at the Pontiac / GMC dealer in Wyoming, we came in to find 2 of our conversion pickups (4WD Sierras with conversion-van type add-ons, big wheels, tires, etc) sitting on the ground. The thieves jacked them up, took the wheels, and then just pushed the trucks off the jacks I assume...

    Mechanic Myths

A factory engine needs to be driven at least 3000 miles on conventional oil before switching to synthetic.

Got my fluid change groove on last night...ahhhhh

Mainly from the advice from some of the guys on the Mazda forums who've used it all have nothing but positive things to say about how it alleviates the typically stubborn 1-2 and 3-2 shift in the Mazdaspeed 6-speed. Since I used it previously in this car with good results, I opted to stick with...

    Co-Worker's 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage

Took a ride in a co-worker's car this morning. Had it since new, and has always had Pennzoil 10W-30 oil changes done anywhere between 3K - 5K miles. A/T, all original with the exception of the thermostat, which was replaced last year after an overheating situation. She has an exaust leak and a...

    Anyone using Mobil 1 15w-50?

Used it in my '96 Virago...it seemed to like it. No clutch side-effects (original clutch with 10K miles) and shifting felt nice.

Got my fluid change groove on last night...ahhhhh

It's a car. :-) 2006 Mazdaspeed 6. But my truck does have Mobil 1 in the sump, some unknown ATF in the tranny (installed at the Ford dealer at 30K) and the factory fill in the diff! Something I plan to remedy in the not-so-distant future.

Got my fluid change groove on last night...ahhhhh

Changed the fluids in my rear diff, transfer case and transmission last night. Amsoil 75W-90 Severe Gear in the rear diff and transfer case, Redline MT-90 in the tranny, and with Pennzoil Platinum already in the sump, she's all slicked up and ready to go! I love fresh fluids...they make me...

    Slowest car ever

Speaking for Dallas..the onramps here are short. Underpowered cars are typically only going 40mph by the time they reach the highway, where people are likely traveling 70+ mph. So, the guy on the on-ramp typically slams his brakes at this point in an effort to try and find a huge hole to try...

    Prefilling oil filters: not good?

I've only been able to notice that the oil light on my SportTrac goes off a couple of seconds quicker with a filled filter. I suppose the minimal effort it requires to fill the filter is worth it in some small way in the shortening of a dry startup. As far as new oil being dirty...hogwash. I've...
