California slashes residential solar feed-in rates

“I think long term pricing going time of use is the only way to solve this problem. You can go negative feed in all you want the home owner or local municipal would still find ways to prioritize their own capacity rather than the least favorite plant on the grid (some coal plant owned by 3rd...

California slashes residential solar feed-in rates

California already curtails PV (and wind on occasion). I’ve seen prices go negative far more than I can remember during daytime hours. Prices start to increase rapidly around HE19 as the massive amount of PV generation comes offline. Prices aren’t the only issue with these PV installations...

    First HDEO oil you used?

At my families water pump company in high school. Our small trucks were Ford 7.3’s(and two gas engine GM’s converted to LP gas). Grandfather had drums of Chevron Delo. We’d use that oil for everything from the 7.3’s to the GM service trucks to the larger L9000’s (think those had international &...

Hypereutectic Pistons & High Zinc Oils

92 was the year of the changeover. Late '92 model years that had the black oil pans (like the '93's) had the cast pistons. Early '92's with the grey oil pan had forged pistons. I used 91 as the last full year of forged piston production.

Hypereutectic Pistons & High Zinc Oils

91 was the last year of the forged pistons in the 5.0HO. I should clarify it was the model year 91.

What are you doing right now?

Working a dayshift. One of my facilities is drawing down afterbays so instead of having 500af of water to raise/lower in inc/dec scheduling, I'm stuck with a high/low delta of 18af. It's a tightrope walk on this one for the next several days.

Do you have a favorite fuel?

90% of fillups are at Chevron. There's one by my house & three by my work. I do try to stick with Chevron, Shell, Exxon-Mobil & 76 overall though. My little pickup is pretty forgiving on the brand of fuel & doesn't seem to mind which I use. Wifes 2.0EB Fusion isn't. It was my commuter for...

    Crown Vic Taxis

Never really heard of head gasket problems with the 4.6 2V. The transmission really requires the J-Mod valve body option & supplemental cooler. I’ve known a fleet owner (now retired) that also added a spin on filter inline with the transmission cooler with great results. The J-Mod valve body...

    Crown Vic Taxis

Broad torque band on the 5.3 compared to the 4 & 5cyl engines. Makes up for the lack of gears for torque multiplication

Have the same transmission in my Canyon just with the smaller 4cyl. It’s referred to as the pokey little pickup 😂

    Crown Vic Taxis

I’ve long thought that several vehicles with the older 4spd autos would be livened up by the new 6, 8 & 10spd transmissions. Especially if they’re similar to the modular Fords with a peakier powerband than the pushrod engines they replaced

    Crown Vic Taxis

The new 10spd would cure that. Just look what the difference with the coyote between the 6spd & 10spd transmissions. The old ‘Vic was saddled with a 4spd

Pulled intake and found carboned up valves.

Did a walnut shell cleaning on my wife's '13 Fusion 2.0EB at just over 100k miles. It was running rich & would puff out black soot whenever accelerating hard. When removing the intake, there really wasn't much buildup (in comparison to my old Mazdaspeed6 or friends BMW). Some engines seem to be...

How many GenX'ers do we have?

My younger brother is also Oct ‘80. He’s retiring from active duty this coming Jan 31st. We were both raised on the ranch & learned how to cause chaos & fix things on our own. Can still hear our grandmothers voice calling us back in for lunch or dinner. Still amazed her voice could carry as far...

How many GenX'ers do we have?

My wife & I went to the same college (CalPoly SLO). We settled it by what they had listed as the start of millennial generation, 1980. She likes to make fun of millennials & considers herself GenX. Since I had tricked her into settling an argument if she was a millennial or not by using Poly’s...

How many GenX'ers do we have?

Screw that. I make fun of my wife regularly for being a millennial (1980). She sees this crap & I’m not hearing the end of it. Time to purge the interwebs of this nonsense 😂

How many GenX'ers do we have?

‘77 here. Work with other Xers & Boomers. Haven’t had a millennial in a few years make it. I’ve met a few really bright ones but fewer with good work ethic. I’m sure they’re out there somewhere.

What are you doing right now?

If you’re going through this much already, why not jump on the SI sale & pick up a 6.5”-8” woofer & do a pillar mounted tweeter or mid/tweeter combo (3-way). Thinking now, you probably don’t have a dsp so just keeping it simple is best.

What are you doing right now?

Just finished a 14hr day shift. Now time for laundry & pack for my short vacation back “home”. Central Coast, CA. GTFO of the Sacramento hellhole for a bit. Astoria, OR next month. Really enjoying being far enough into my career to break loose several times a year. Family went too many years...

85 C30 restomod, love those Squarebodys.

Friend had a '73 shortbed Chevy that needed some work. Was his daily beater but he needed an extracab truck. Told him if he ever wanted to sell it I'd take it off his hands. About 2yrs ago I see him in a newer GMC crewcab & ask him about the 73. **** guy sold it for $1500. Would have been a...
