Changing your oil when it's hot - good/bad/who cares?

Always do mine hot. Dunno about the whole suspension thing. I figure if contaminates are coming out of suspension either the oil/filter is completely wasted and overdue, or something is failing to keep junk from getting into the engine. Personally I just want the drain to be over faster

    2025 Skyactive engine 2.5 NON turbo 0w20 vs 5w30

I ran 0W-20 for 80,000 miles in my 18 Mazda 6 with the 2.5 NA in it. These engines aren't picky at all. Unfortunately I don't have any evidence +/- for its efficacy, but the engine was happy until I got t-boned at a stop sign.

    Minimum Speed Requirement

If the conditions and road state warrant the speed limitn- drive the speed limit. Clogging up the roads is not conducive to proper traffic flow, irritates other drivers, and puts you and others and a greater risk of a traffic accident or road rage incident.

Used oil in oil-burning lawn mower

I don't think the cold rating matters at all here. A 5w30 is still going to conform to 30 weight oil rating when hot. The 5W when cold would just ensure that the oil is flung around / pumped easier when it is cold vs the straight weight oil. And a cold 5w30 is still going to be far more viscous...

Most Dependable Mid - Size SUV ?

Mazda's 2.5 SkyActiv NA and 6speed auto are well known for durability. The CX-5 and CX-50 both come equipped with that drivetrain. I bought a 24 CX-50 Turbo, and it's now got 25k miles on it. No regrets.

    Oil Overfill

332mL isn't what I'd call massively overfilled. That's less than a can of soda. It's not like there's an additional gallon of oil in the sump.

    2023 Mazda 3 2.5T HPL PCEO 5W-30 10,000 miles

Not a bad report for 10k miles on a brand new engine. Copper and silicon should come down as the engine wears in and the initial oil fill is diluted out.

Oil for 2021 Mazda CX-5 and Viscosity

The MZR/Ford Duratec engines are awesome. Had one in a 2011 Fusion that I drove until 324,000 miles. 10,000 mile OCIs on 0W-20 and burned MAYBE 4-6Oz of oil in that time. Ran amazingly well until I had to junk the car for a bad transmission. Amazing engine.

Mini cooper dipstick. How to read?

There's a company that makes dye for petroleum products called Rekhaoil. Wonder if it might be easier to add a drop or two of dye into the crankcase so it shows up easier when the oil is new

Oil for 2021 Mazda CX-5 and Viscosity

I had a 2018 Mazda 6 with the same 2.5 NA engine in it. I ran 7500 mile oci with whatever 0W-20 full synthetic I could get at Walmart, and a couple 0w-40 Euro runs at the end. Did so for 80,000 miles and although I have 0 used oil analysis to show, I never saw any difference in oil and the old...

2024 CX-50 Turbo owner (same drive line as the CX-5 Turbo.) I use 5w30 Synthetic (So far Valvoline and Mobil1) and Mazda OEM filters at 5000 mile intervals. No top up needed so far, but the vehicle only has 15k miles on it, so time will tell.

How Thin Oil's Kill Your Engine, the Magic Mechanic Show

Sure. No argument there. But then my question becomes "Will the average owner of an average car see a real-world difference in how the engine performs over a long period of time." Yes, a thicker oil provides better protection. This is a demonstrated fact and like you said, the basic backbone of...
