Car/Motorcycle Accident in Vancouver, BC - Cycle Ends Up on Traffic Light Stanchion

I had a wreck on my bike almost 5 years ago. I learned a lot from it. In New Jersey at least, if you turn in front of a vehicle going straight, you will be found at fault for causing the accident. Now in this instance, you can't see who had a green light and who had a red light. But blame will...

Terrible picture inside oil pan (2001 Silverado)

I'm a bit confused here. You have a 25 year old vehicle with over 200,000 miles on it, it runs fine and your worried about what the inside of the oil pan looks like ?. Keep doing what your doing and when it blows up, get another one. It don't owe you anything.,,

Changing your oil when it's hot - good/bad/who cares?

Does your oil filter allow contaminants to leach back into your oil pan, as the engine oil cools ?. If it doesn't, then it shouldn't make any difference if you do it cold or hot. Hot oil flows faster out of a drain hole, so for the sake of speed, changing your oil when hot helps speeds up the...

Can moving up in oil weight damage other parts

If your parents car is 28 years old and is running fine, I would continue using what they were using. If it starts using oil, then maybe up the grade of oil. Just how many years are you hoping to get out of the car ?. I'd bet other parts on the car will quit before the engine gives up.,,

    1992 Honda 750 Nighthawk 10W-40 or 15w-50?

Being your bike is is 34 years old, I'm guessing the engine might be getting a bit louder when riding. If your valves are adjustable, you may want to give them a check. Another thing you could try Is making up a 50/50 mix of 10w40 and 20w50 weight oil, and see how that feels and sounds.,,

Do you run seafoam or any other “engine cleaner” in your OPE?

I have a 5 gallon gas can for my ope, and when I fill it up I add about 2-3 oz's of the cheapest carb / fuel injector cleaner the auto parts store sells. And I also throw some Marvel Mystery oil in the can also. My experience with doing that is, my ope always starts easily first start of the...

How GM Transmissions are designed To Fail with NextGen Drivetrain

I did a quick look around and found that a 15 year old 4wd pick up with 150k on the clock, usually sells in the $12,000 range. And a replacement transmission job would set you back anywhere between $3500- $7,500. That's close to what the truck is worth. And if any other big ticket item goes out...

How GM Transmissions are designed To Fail with NextGen Drivetrain

I agree. Even if they put a filter like a engine oil filter to strain all the junk the out, it would be easy to do a real service. But the mfgrs don't really want your car to last a long time. If they did, they would only sell a relatively small amount of new cars.,,

How GM Transmissions are designed To Fail with NextGen Drivetrain

I have a lightly used 2011 Chevy equinox with 104k on the clock. Since my wife bought it at 35k miles, I've changed the transmission fluid twice. You can't change the internal filter without taking the engine and transmission out of the car, so it's just a drain and fill 5/6 qt deal. So when...

    Boating season has started

It's been over 20 years since I sold my boat, but my experience with storage was this. I went overboard with winter storage. I would run the gas down to 1/4 tank or lower, and put a touch more treatment then the bottle required, and topped of the tank with fresh gas. Then take it out for a short...

10W-60: Castrol Edge Titanium FST vs Ravenol Motobike 4-T Ester

The Jaso Ma2 spec is mainly for the clutch. Does that bike share the engine oil with the clutch?. If not, I would think using a 10w60 wt oil might be a bit heavy. What weight does the manual recommend for the temps you plan on using the bike in?.,,

Harley has a NEW High Zinc Motorcycle Oil!

Most people like myself, would rather take a quick ride to the local auto parts store or bike shop, pick up the oil and go home and change their oil. And not have to order it and wait for it to show up. Price wise, if it's not the most expensive oil out there, I'd be surprised. I'm not a fan of...

    Vitamin D

I've asked a few people the same question. Their answers were the same, I don't want to get skin cancer. And if you slather yourself up with sun screen, you might as well be wearing a jacket, hat, and pants. Which one guy I know does. I take Vitamin D year round, as the medicine I take has a...

New Vehicle : Early First Oil Change Or Not ?

Years ago When I was in high school, I toured the GM plant in Linden nj, when they were still there. At that time they were building Cadillac's there. And later in the '90's they switched to building Chevy's. The tour was from the first pieces installed on a car, to the very end. At the end of...

Cleaning and UV protection for motorcycle?

Harley Davidson has a product that I use called "Harley Gloss", that comes in a spray bottle for about $20. It's sold as a detail spray. I've been using it for years on my bikes and my cars. It says on the bottle it has "UV protect-ant in it". I use it on the paint, chrome, the seat, and any...

Why oh why do they do this? 75w85 recommended but not popular on the shelf.

While my post doesn't have anything to do with trucks, it makes you wonder. My old Harley motorcycle's manual says to use 20w50 wt engine oil in it's transmission. But Harley also sold an oil for transmission use, that has been tested on this site, to be pretty much just straight 40 weight oil...
