    2008 Chevy HHR worth considering?

Just retired a G5 with 391,730km on it, engine ran perfect, ac blew ice cold…yeah, they develop issues, but for $2900 you will HAVE to do some work. Very reliable engine and trans; not great rust-resistance.

    Scrapped my 2009 Pontiac G5

My buddy had one of the last-year 260hp turbo Cobalt SS…now THAT thing would fly!! The platform was not designed to go as fast as it could, so it got scary at the upper end on it, twitchy to say the least. My buddy traded it in on a used Corvette; the kid who bought his SS from the dealership...

    Amsoil Signature Series & GF-7

Pablo, not criticizing, just curious: You said for years Amsoil wouldnt do a ‘high mileage’ oil; then they did one very late to the game, admitting it was a big market. Now ‘everyone’ has a ‘cleans pistons’ oil…will Amsoil follow suit? This reformulation would be the perfect opportunity to do...

    Scrapped my 2009 Pontiac G5

I found it a great highway car, better than I was expecting. Seats were comfortable (for me, at least), and it had decent power to get up to speed and pass. Got great gas mileage, that’s for sure!

    I bought a 2017 Lincoln Navigator L

If it had ‘totally basic’ maintenance, then it got 5W-20 Motorcraft blend at (?) intervals. Idling a lot in livery service in a crowded city…I’d worry about how much those 2 turbos cooked the oil into a pile of deposits. If the rings are all gummed up, it will drink oil. If the TC got gummed up...

    Scrapped my 2009 Pontiac G5

After 6 years of ownership, and 197,000km and change (123k miles) of driving, I drove my 2009 Pontiac G5 to the recycler this morning. Got $420 for it, which is more than I expected. Everything still worked on the car, AC even blew ice cold, but rust was getting too bad as often happens with...

Valvoline Restore and Protect Improved MPG?

I’d worry a bit more about running 5W-20 in an engine calling for 5W-30 - I think the turbo engines call for 30-weight, so I wouldn’t want to run a thinner oil in a turbo car in the summer.

496 BBC roller syn or regular 15w40

That is a serious motor! Ooof! I’d run a racing 20W-50…big fuel dilution on something that big, and if it’s being raced adds to the stress. I bet that pulls the front tires off the ground on a hard launch!

STP's Synthetic Engine Oil Line-Up: Cleans Pistons?

I like the aluminum colour of that filter; wish we got STP engine oil and filters up here in Canada.

STP's Synthetic Engine Oil Line-Up: Cleans Pistons?

STP’s engine oils I think have always been good, whoever blends them.

    New product from STP?

Interesting - I still think it’s just a Re-labelling of their ‘synthetic oil treatment’ that came in the same gold bottle 2-4 years ago.

Pennzoil with Tough Film and Z-7

If you find the black stone testing of antique oils, they test this exact oil.

Are your driving plans changing due to fuel costs?

Article in the news today about how Costco is selling more gas now than it ever has and how they do it - sell basically at cost and make ‘profit’ off membership fees it takes for people to get the gas.

    Oil recommendations-SBC 383

Synthetic 10W-30 HDEO is what I’d run in it.

Mitsubishi stores get scarcer as brand cuts low performers and ‘fed up’ dealers walk away

I don’t understand why they don’t do well, they are stupid-reliable vehicles, hardly ever see them in my stores garage. Have never met anyone who didn’t like their Mitsubishi.

Just purchased a 2012 Nissan Armada Platinum 4x4

Very nice, looks to be in great shape! $6k for a full-size SUV in this market is great!

    Not seeing E15.......Yet

Most of our pumps up here just say ‘May contain up to 15% ethanol’; so who knows what we are getting.

No packaged oil shortage in Canada?

A lot of notices are coming out in the US about shortages of finished motor oils about to start happening. I’m the Parts Manager for a smaller CT, and our shelves are full of oil, we get lots in, and speaking to our GM the other day, no notices of possible shortages are coming from corporate...

    Oh, how life changes!

Well, it’s the end of the road for the G5 at 6 years of use and 391,700km…just getting way too rusty to fix anymore. The new sills we welded in 6 years ago have completely rusted off and the back suspension/control arm mounts are starting to crack. Plus the exhaust has rusted apart and can’t...
