The odometer stopped working a million years ago. I’ve had heads redone, timing, and possibly a cam years back. Unsure of mileage but it’s always felt strong for what it is. Changed it with Quaker state 5w-40 euro this morning and the engine is much smoother.

Interesting! I just went through service records from when it was new, and roughly 10 years after it being new. It was always fed 10w-40 from the Land Rover dealer. Pretty sure I’ve ran 5w-40 & 15w40 diesel oil through it since self servicing it

Any brand? The flat tappet cam is my main concern. Whenever stuff started taking the zinc away, people started to run Rotella in these. But that has changed over the years too. Not sure what’s safe to use

Just got my old 1996 Land Rover discovery running again. I’m based in the U.S. so it’s the V8 engine. It’s been awhile, and I cannot remember what oil is commonly used? I think people used rotella but formulations change. I believe this motor has a flat tappet cam

Haha yes. Bone stock, and actually not abused if you can believe me.

The car doesn’t really make any power at lower RPM. You need to be higher up in the RPM range to enjoy it. I’ve used liqui moly, motul, amsoil, and for awhile was using a shell hilux but ran out of stock. I’ve heard people say the Quaker State Euro is the same as that shell.

In college I spun a bearing on my daily driver, which had like 40k miles using Mobil 1. I doubt it was the oils fault, but that has always kept me away from Mobil 1 for any of my fun cars.
