    INA or Melling timing set?

Hey guys, I am going to replace the timing chain in my wife's Grand Caravan w/3.3 and when I ordered the Mopar part, I was told that it was discontinued. This leaves me with aftermarket choices - I've got it narrowed to INA or Melling.. The last INA that I bought was made in Taiwan but appeared...

    3.6 Pentastar purge valve/misfire issues

The back story is that he is rural postal driver and he bought this Jeep for his route. It was already well used and had just had some work done to it but as soon as he picked it up, he got an engine light (I don't remember the code anymore). When he brought it to me it was already a bit...

    3.6 Pentastar purge valve/misfire issues

I know it's not an apples to apples comparison, but I found this on a 2015 Wrangler. Btw this was taken in August last year but he kept driving it - I'm just now getting to put an engine in it. The thing that stopped him was timing chain death noises and low oil pressure 🤣

Are you having them replace all the followers or just the ones for 1,3,5?

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan - Front Strut Assemblies

I wonder how much of your experience with shocks/struts is influenced by your roads, climates, make/model of car and customer? IWO a conservative customer driving a premium vehicle on good roads in good weather conditions? I've seen plenty of dampers that were sacked by 100-150k. Rattles...

    3.6 Pentastar purge valve/misfire issues

Gotcha, I was going off of my dealer price. If the OP elects to take it take a shop for the work to be done, it is unlikely that he'll pay any less than ~$500/cam

    3.6 Pentastar purge valve/misfire issues

Not sure where you're getting that price? My cost as a shop is $390 - customer cost will generally be a fair bit higher.

2009 Chevy Cobalt Low on Power

Not always. I've had them be noticably down in power due to a plugged cat with no CEL

Well that sucks. What's the plan now?

    3.6 Pentastar purge valve/misfire issues

Since it's RPM linked and only #5, do a relative compression test, maybe you've got a roller follower or cam lobe failing. I've got a Hemi at the shop now that does very similar things. Have also seen 3.6s do similar and have a bad cam lobe

Two engines, two misfires and their diagnoses

Thank you for the insight. That's the problem with being a small one man band type shop that primarily works on older vehicles (believe it or not, a 2013 is on the newer side of what I work on) - I don't have the exposure or time to dig into these issues. I know that they exist but often the...

Two engines, two misfires and their diagnoses

Do you have any insight on the cause? Metallurgy issues? Can I assume that they've got them pretty well sorted? I'm going to push for a Chrysler reman (who knows who does it for them) just because I feel like they'll have the least issues of the various companies out there.

Two engines, two misfires and their diagnoses

Honestly I'm surprised it lasted this long - he's not the best at oil changes. He does construction, so he's driving every day.

Two engines, two misfires and their diagnoses

Yeah I need to make it an arbitrary part of my diag routine. The majority of my misfire cases are pretty obviously ignition, but you're 100% right that it's just a good idea and quickly shows the mechanical heath of all cylinders relative to one another.

Two engines, two misfires and their diagnoses

Here's a little more info on the Hemi - after the relative compression test and seeing that #5 had a higher current draw than the rest,I pulled the valve cover for inspection and found this - and it's because of this and the fact it's got 180k on it that it's going to get a remanned engine.

Rear air shocks on a buick

You definitely have a leak. I just replaced the shocks and compressor on my 97 LeSabre last weekend and went through this too. After fixing the last leak fix more permanently mine will hold air overnight.

Two engines, two misfires and their diagnoses

About two weeks ago I had a guy unexpectedly drop his 13 Ram 2500 5.7 - he said that it was feeling a little punky and the engine light would come on and flash. Eventually I brought it in and scanned it - misfire on 5. Road test showed that under light load it would drive okay but using the...

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan - Front Strut Assemblies

Try the dealer for bare struts. I have an 09 Grand Caravan that I first put Gabriel or possibly Monroe assemblies on and simply was not happy. I ended up ordering shocks and struts from the dealer and was quite happy with the ride. The price wasn't that bad either.. Granted I get shop pricing...
