Do you idle your turbocharged motor to cool the oil before shutting it off?

I generally let everything I operate idle for a short period before I shut down, while I do my methodic left to right shutdown of switches (depending on the vehicle). I blame a youth misspent around old turbo SAABs, leaky British cars, Pipers, etc. Drives my family nuts;)

    Remove vent pin from thermostat?

I was also always told the jiggle pin is to keep the passage clear, I would leave it. Original thermostats for my Tr6 had the pin and I always left it as I always use a tablet of GM Stop Leak when I flush coolant (original heater core, etc.) and was concerned about the passage staying open...

1994 Toyota Camry 2.2 - oil pressure guage - is there an adapter?

Just out of paranoia, if you replace the warning lamp switch w/ a sender, try to find a gauge sender w/ 2 terminals so you can keep the lamp or install a buzzer. VDO and others make them.

    Herreshoff Boat Museum, Bristol, RI

A few years ago a friend and I started to visit arcane, unusual, niche or just off the beaten path smaller museums, lets call it the "Places our Wives Wouldn't be Caught Dead At" tour. Lots of old cars, boats, airplanes, trucks, engines, trolleys, etc. Craftsmanship and innovation. The...

Redline Fluid recommendation causes issues in Porsche 718 PDK

I am generally a fan of Redline, but they and Porsche are a bad combo on several models. I tried their manual transaxle fluids in our 9x6 cars and the shifting was very notchy warm, but just terrible when cold. Obviously a PDK is different but as someone already noted, Redline may go wide on...

List when you found evidence that previous mechanic messed up

None on cars, yet.... Well, there was the time when I had some avionics work done on my dearly missed Dakota, new Garmin, transponder, comm panel, etc., at a new local shop. Got an iffy feeling about the owner as the job progressed, but the work seemed OK after a short test flight. Next...

    Arizona Black Rattlesnake!

From a hiking trip a while back, a Northern Pacific Rattlesnake. Feisty bugger but I was in his house, I gave him a wide berth as I passed but he still rattled and coiled into striking position despite me being ~10' away at that point. I've read that moderate sized rattlers can only strike...

Reusing Oil Filter during Oil Change, but Dumping Old Oil Out?

Probably or maybe.... How does it seal to the center tube or base? Deform like some M&H's or compress like those with thick fabric seals or just O rings? Given the application, I would not experiment. Penny wise and....

Reusing Oil Filter during Oil Change, but Dumping Old Oil Out?

Can't really think of a logical reason to not change the filter, but if you must reuse, no way would I remove and reinstall the same filter.

Why do people buy 1 quart bottles of oil?

For the spare bottle one keeps in their trunk or frunk. Refilled bottles are messy.
