It's funny people who waste money buying oil for $70-80 will fight someone barely spending $30 on the whole oil change 😂 I'm a mechanic and I'm telling y'all straight up there's no point in getting that expensive of an oil if you just change it. If you don't wanna change it for 10-20k miles...
Still doesn't justify spending $60+ on 5 quarts of oil. I've used Marvel Mystery Oil for years and it does a fantastic job at cleaning.
My 4.6 at 180k miles is spotless under the head. Shiney. No oil staining or nothing. AND using Quaker State.
1 quart of oil over 3 months isn't horrible. I had a Cadillac that lost a quart over a few weeks 😂
Throw a bottle of AT-205 or BlueDevil Rear Main Seal in the oil and run it for the duration of the oil change. I can just about guarantee you it'll seal up. (It won't stop anything up, it swells...
As a mechanic myself, I change my oil around 3k miles which is typically when it gets dark. It's normal. I'm not a scientist but going to 5-6k shouldn't hurt anything. But I refuse to go 10K miles as some dealers suggest as I've seen the filters split open before then and I've seen the havoc...
Any oil that is dexos certified will suffice. I prefer Quaker State, as the price and performance is there. Most oils are the same nowadays with varying additive packages.
For your filter, NAPA Gold (Wix) is your best but sticking with OEM ACDelco is completely fine as well.
Have a 1991 Chevy Lumina with the 3.1 motor. Cooling fans will not kick on. I hooked wires up to both fans and they work. All fuses and relays are good. Coolant sensor was broken and I replaced that. Sensor connector is rusted so I am thinking that might be what is stopping it. Does anyone have...
@mrbreezeet1 I have, I tested it out of the box on a 30-year-old car with steel lug nuts that haven't been removed in a long time. I compared it side by side with the DieHard and the DieHard cranked until it cut-off and the Ryobi zipped it off with no issue. 100% worth the $80.

Quaker State. Every vehicle I've put it in likes it compared to others.
I've also talked with the team at QS many times and that has really improved my experience with them. Very kind people!
As the title says... what is the deal with HPL oil? I am seeing it heavily talked about on the forum but nowhere else. What's special about it? How do you buy it?
