I have that mower. So far, it’s been great. Starts first pull. I did the break in oil change. I’m thinking about going to Mobil 1 15w50 since Kholer now has that 300 hour 50wt oil.

The gist of the entire test is to figure out if there is truly an optimal oil for the LZ0 as it has some problems and seems to be exceptionally hard on oil and itself. IF...and that is a big IF...there is a best of the best oil, this engine would seem to be one that you would want to use it in...

There are a ton of knockoff fake junk filters out there...amazon. Its a shame because the OEMs are stupid expensive.

It’s pretty much viewed as dead end technology. I hate that…but it is.

Has Mobil reformulated a lot of their oils recently? First it was advanced clean changing?

Is it leaking it or burning it? If it’s leaking, that’s a separate issue that oil probably won’t fix, even high mileage oil.

I have a 22 F150 with the ecoboost. It’s at about 112k miles and has mostly been on the ford 10k mile oci. Ford gave me a free maintenance plan for 10 changes or 100k miles because they didn’t install some things that were part of a package due to the chip shortage. I’ve done a few changes...

I use full syn marine oil.

Here is my latest report from Blackstone. The oil on the far left is Mobil ESP 0w30. It came in with higher iron numbers than the next one to the right that was Castrol 0w20. The next two moving right were 5w30 Castrol Edge Euro K and ESP. Overall, I’m thinking this engine likes 0w20.

That’s fair. I’ve seen the pics. I cut open 3 FL500s filters after use and found none of the glue issues and they were properly adhered to the endcaps…but I agree about the excess glue issues.

Same filter, same use...no towing or anything other than normal home/work/home trips. Nothing out of the ordinary. Heading into summer, so maybe a bit warmer vs a bit colder...but I live in a mild climate (VA). I had some Castrol 5w30K left over from before and my prior UOA on it wasn't...

I cross matched my Kohler lawn mower engine oil filter and found a Motorcraft replacement. Fits perfectly...this engine eats a LOT of dirt and grass clippings, so I suspect the filter works hard. Cut open the old one and it had some metal shavings in it, but the mower was new last year so its...

As per above, I kinda wonder now...since wear metals went back up. The only variable was that I went to Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 for this run.

Because it came up, I just got my latest UOA from Blackstone on my 3.0 LZ0. I used Mobil 1 ESP 0w30. Not a great report as iron numbers went up compared to prior Castrol 0w20 on the prior use.
