The only sealant that I've ever used is Taber's Flox-Ex - it's some really good stuff. That said with such a nice flat finish, you likely won't need any sealant. And FWIW I would use the stainless steel gasket.
It's a surprisingly tolerant engine. I had fixed one that was so bad that it ate the cast in stands that the guides mount to. There was so much metal everywhere (including plugging up the vct valves that I had to pressure wash the top of the head and pull the oil pan to remove the debris - that...
Those are most assuredly from the timing chain area. Either the guides or the cast in stands that the guides mount to. Been there done that with a customer 2.4. Even have a thread with pics on it.
Ill keep my eyes open for a used one - I don't have much call for programming at the moment so it's hard to justify the expense.
Thank you for taking the time to help out, it is appreciated!
Well I think that I'm hosed on the deal... I have the most current version of Forscan that publicly available (2.3.71) and it won't perform the Transmission Characterization Update. It says that there is a TRID block integrated into the firmware and that version 2.4 or higher is required...
I can't believe it took this long for someone to ask! :ROFLMAO:
Castrol Euro 5w40 and a NAPA Gold 1348 (after reading about their supplier switch). I had been running Mobil 1 0W40 but the old engine consumed it at a higher rate than I liked, somewhere around a quart every 1500 miles. For...

I agree with what you said, except that the generators do in fact use the idle circuit since they're very lightly loaded when not working - throttle plate is basically closed.
