Is there a relationship between the quality of gas(dime store gas...lowest bidder) and an oils ability to maintain the additive package and suspend solids ?
In other words, will using cleaner gas(name brand) result in longer oil life....
I own the same truck (minus towing package) and I am keenly interested in your forthcoming switch to 5w-20. I posted a thread on the Taco forum and it seems everyone there is scared to try the 20 weight. The V-6 in my Honda pilot(5w-20) is much quieter than the Taco, however this is not a very...
My V-6 Tacoma takes about 10 minutes with the top mounted filter. Best vehichle I have ever owned for oil changes....no ramps. When it's fitted with the Fumoto valve, I can shave another 60 seconds off. Nascar, here I come.
Nothing beats a John Deere tractor for speedy oil changes though.
Perhaps Toyota has improved the surface finishes on internal engine bearing surfaces since 2006 and requires a thinner oil film to adequately protect, thus clearing these motors for 5w-20 use.
Thank you Ekpolk...I drew a similar conclusion. I like Gary's comment about finding a cap that 5w-20 I hate to "whip a dead horse", but is this info so fuzzy as to be a potential problem with a warranty claim ?
I have a 2006 tacoma with the V-6. It says 5w-30 on the dipstick cap but the TSB says it is back spec'd for the 5w-20. Can I run 5w-20 ?
This TSB has to be the worst written information I have seen in a while.
I have a 2006 Tacoma with the 1GR-FE V-6. Although the TSB says use the weight oil stamped on the cap(5w-30) it appears this does retro-fit the 5w-20 for this engine. Good news.
And I just bought 30 qts of Maxlife 5w-30 under the free 5 qt. rebate incentive....darn.
