Dino or Grp. III 0w-XX oils?

I did the partial drain and fill this afternoon, prior to reading this, and have to wonder why I shouldn't mix ATFs? The factory fill (AFAIK) was still in the transmission up to now, so to do a drain and fill I have to mix something in with this, do I not? Mobil 1 ATF is Mercon and Mercon V...

NEW Mobil 1 High Mileage LOL

I just started using M1 10w-40 High Mileage in my motorcycle--calls for 10w-40, so I figure I'm okay. Any concerns?

Dino or Grp. III 0w-XX oils?

Good advice, thanks everyone. Brian, it's good to hear that. I know of Civic that have lasted to 150k+ with horrible OCIs and no regard for recommended oils--including a co-worker's that goes upwards of 10k on each dino OCI and still keeps on ticking! Thanks to the generosity of my future...

Dino or Grp. III 0w-XX oils?

It just makes me curious that Ford, Honda, and others are now specifying a 5w-20 oil for engine designs that are usually identical or not far from types they previously recommended various Xw-30 oils for previously. Also, I've been reading info on this site that shows how 5w-xx oils are...

    20W-50 anyone?

40w-70?! Nah, mate! Give me a good 75w-90 gear oil--it's the only way.

Dino or Grp. III 0w-XX oils?

Doing some thinking whilst narrowing down my choices for motor oil. My Honda Civic HX (High Efficiency VTEC-E) lists a preference for 5w-30 in its manual and on the oil filler cap. To date I have been buying Mobil 1 5w-30 for this reason, but I am wondering about a few things: With loads of...

    Mobil- 1/Makes more noise

When I did my first non-dealer oil change on my motorcycle, I used Mobil 1 15w-50 (back before I read the gospel) and noticed an immediate quieting of the engine under idle, roll-on, and shifting--which was smooth as silk thanks to the thicker lube! I've since gone to M1 10w-40 with similar...

Which oil to use...need some advice.

Seems like you can switch brands, types, and weights as often as you wish--if not, there would be a lot of forum members here shopping for new rides! Rotella Syn's great stuff, especially if the recommended oil is 10w-40 or 20w-50.

    20W-50 anyone?

1988 Volkswagen Jetta, 1.8 SOHC, got Castrol GTX 20w-50 from the time I owned it, regardless of season. Bought it for $1400 with 187,000 miles, and sold it for $500 with 326,000 still running like a top! Kind of glad I got rid of it before I found this site, probably would have moved it to 0w-40...
