you're going in a circle. you've already seen the evidence OVERKILL posted showing that they are simply different requirements, not stricter. camshaft wear tests instead of piston/cylinder wear. zero reason to assume that 504 is somehow better for wear just because of that stupid spider chart.
The lubrizol chart should probably just be banned. These are minimums set by the standard. Oils can of course exceed them, and a 3.9 HTHS 502 obviously has more wear protection than a 3.5 HTHS 504. That chart does not mean that all 504 oils are better than all 502 oils.
That's why he's worried. Personally, I'd expect the seals on his direct injectors to fail from the increased cylinder pressure (since this is a problem on the 19+ EA888.3 cars) before he has an oil-related failure from the "thin" 0w40.
These should just be mandatory in any 0w20 VW 508...
depends on the service. full drain including a new pan/filter could be up to 13 quarts depending on the car. most dealers I called just do a drain and fill, which is 6-8. I asked for the "full" fluid service which was just a drain and fill twice, which means I'd still have a decent amount of old...
Been interested in trying torco for a while. Curious if anyone's tested their gear oil, there's a very old study which they did very poorly on, but it was produced by AMSOil and is obviously outdated: https://shop-banks.s3.amazonaws.com/products_data/diff_covers/gear-oil-comparison.pdf
For OP's topic, there's nothing wrong with M1 0w40 in that application. You want to change the oil more anyway, and it's one of the best options for the money.
If you want a much more specific description of how the oil pump works in an EA888, start on page 17...
the process isn't that difficult, but make sure you have a copy of the service manual and not just a youtube video. if you can get the fluid affordably I would absolutely do it yourself, it's not much different than a normal drivetrain fluid service, just with a couple more steps to make sure...
It's one of the very few things (besides recalls) I'll go to the dealer for. As long as it's a dealer using the OE fluid, some of the ones around me upcharge for the privilege of using universal BG crap. If they're not giving you the per-quart price with the job, they'll only sell you the 5...
They're definitely two halves of the same coin. They've skated by on the LRG bump to their reputation, but when you're constantly using it for replacing parts that show up broken... I spoke with one of their higher ups this spring about it (because they tried to weasel their way out of honoring...
The one thing you don't want to do is talk to scammers. Too easy to record your voice and have it stolen via AI and then used to scam people you know. Sounds paranoid but everything has become so much worse these days.
the only thing is that 504 is low-mid saps, so lower TBN to handle acid byproducts from ethanol combustion. nothing inherently bad about using ethanol, many 504 lubes are API SN/SP which has tests for e85. i would change oil earlier if using ethanol, but this isn't specific to 504.
Low SAPS castrol is all I can find at autozone/aap locally. I cannot get edge 0w30 anywhere but amazon, unless I pay $12/qt at advance to have it shipped. Your local market is not universal to the US.
