LSJr video about vis, wear, viscosity, etc

Not everyone drinks beer to get drunk. One of my greatest joys in life is drinking a pint of Guinness in a pub in London while people-watching. The oil and filters I choose to use are personal to me. After watching the video, bonus that my oil choice is high in moly!

LSJr video about vis, wear, viscosity, etc

Lake has been working with Chip Hewitte(sp?), a former engineer with Afton. Chip has taken over a large piece of his analysis. There are two videos which he refers, but didn't provide links. Here they are: Oil pressure doesn't matter... and The Science Behind Million Mile Engines. Reader's...

    2020 Frontier - Tires again

Jason, Engineering Explained, put out this video on tire longevity and how they wear. The video description says "The Science Behind Tire Wear & How Engineers Design for Longevity". Added: Time has more to do with degradation of compounds while wear has more to do with physics. In the video...

    Faking status for military discounts

I spent nine years in the USAF from 1978-1987. Never knew you could get a Veteran ID Card (VIC) through the VA (just looked it up). I have signed up for multiple military discounts (Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply, etc) following their requirements, usually verified through ID.me. My driver's...

List when you found evidence that previous mechanic messed up

New 1991 Chevy S-10 Blazer 4x4. Took to dealer when it hit 30,000 miles for them to do their 30k service package. After picking it up, noticed undisturbed dust on the radiator cap (flushed and filled, supposedly). I immediately went to check the spark plugs (V6) to see if they had been replaced...

    84 month car loans

I'm glad my 2025 Honda Pilot is "special". I'd hate to think I own a depreciating asset into which I'm regularly pumping gas and changing the oil.

First new car. 2026 Honda Pilot Trailsport

I hate Honda's VCM on the newer Pilots. I have a 2025 Pilot with the J35Y8 engine. When VCM activates, the rear 3 cylinders (firewall) are shut off. Sport and Tow drive modes prevents VCM from activating. At highway speeds (75-80mph), the RPM difference is roughly 2300 in Sport and 2000 in Tow...

For those who be hating on 0W-20

Personally, I believe thick is better than thin. We are talking about thick-skinned vs thin-skinned, right? Seems too many people get butt-hurt too easily.

Why do people buy 1 quart bottles of oil?

My Pilot takes 5.8 quarts with oil filter change. Easier for me to buy 12-quart cases and have a splash of oil left after each OCI than keeping track of open 4 or 5 quart jugs. When traveling, it's easier to take a single quart along with a disposable funnel than a large jug. Luckily, I've only...

Buy or Rent Trash Pump for Emptying Swimming Pool

Renting the trash pump was the best decision. It's been cleaned and swimmable for a few months now. My wife retired the end of last year and spends hours lazily floating around reading her Kindle. Yesterday was four hours. Me, I'm still working since she won't be eligible for Medicare until next...

new RX350 - First oil change and wow tight filter

Do as I say, not as I do. Somewhere there's a thread having the discussion on how to correctly tighten/torque oil filters with a P-style gasket, but I couldn't find it. Wonder if this may be related, but doubt it. Certainly not the oil drain bolt.

    Walmart oil prices - Ah!

Prices remained low for quite some time and are now going up, but the other piece of the puzzle are shortages due to the Pearl GTL plant being offline. Right now, it's the higher prices we have to deal with. Before long, I believe it's going to be shortages on the shelves of some products, also.

First new car. 2026 Honda Pilot Trailsport

Congratulations on your new Pilot. The color combination is beautiful. I also chose the Pilot (2025) because of the NA V6. Hope you get many years of enjoyment from it.
