@Trav I ordered a small tube of Hylomar M. It looks like it should seal well, very sticky. Guess I'll be keeping the original gasket and just sealing it up with some Hylomar M, blue glue.
It was a fine gasket. Not a cheap knockoff type. Might have been OEM or felpro. If there was a problem, it might have been with my install, or that the pump became warped because i pried it off or something (I had difficulties). Either way, I'm thinking sealant is the way to go. One can see how...
@kschachn Permatex ultra black (oil resistant) seems equivalent to that. The oil pump uses a rubber gasket (pic below), the last mechanic in there added lots of RTV around it but it wasn't a perfect seal. And after my removal and install, the pump or rubber gasket may have been accidentally...
