New to me 2010 Mazda3 2.5l. Which oil?

Well, I do have a friend who works at Toyota as a service advisor. Maybe I'll hit him up for some of this stuff...or just stick to PP.

New to me 2010 Mazda3 2.5l. Which oil?

Google says TGMO is Toyota Genuine Motor Oil. Toyota got a super-secret source or something?

New to me 2010 Mazda3 2.5l. Which oil?

Coming from a Subaru background, I'm programmed to recoil at the thought of Mobil1.

New to me 2010 Mazda3 2.5l. Which oil?

It's that time again: someone whipped a U-turn into my 2002 Protege5, totalling it. I bought a super-clean 2010 Mazda3, and I'm wondering what 0-20 oil you guys recommend now.

    RIP Gary Allan

What? I haven't been here in a few years, and this is what greets me? RIP, Gary. Oh, [censored]? I actually had a PM from him in my inbox, from 2009, unopened. Dammit ****. Just an Amsoil price sheet, but still...

Buying an 02 Mazda protege5, 66k miles. AutoRX it?

I wouldn't mind spending more for a yearly OCI, like I said $60 and I'm in, but $80...nah, I can do 7k on any good synth in this car, i'm pretty sure.

Buying an 02 Mazda protege5, 66k miles. AutoRX it?

Ah. I guess it'll be PP or Redline or whatever i have available locally. Too bad.

Buying an 02 Mazda protege5, 66k miles. AutoRX it?

I looked at that, but it was $9 shipping + $5 tax, for an $80 oil change. $10/quart? Cool. $17 filter? OK. But adding $15 tax and shipping to a $60 oil change? Pass.

Buying an 02 Mazda protege5, 66k miles. AutoRX it?

I tend to drive hard; I live in socal, where winters are mild and summers are brutal; I do lots of stop and go driving. I came from a subaru, where 5-30 is recommended for the impreza in the US, but a 40w or higher is recommended by subaru for the same car in other locales. It has to do with...

Buying an 02 Mazda protege5, 66k miles. AutoRX it?

Thanks, guys. I ran the clean oil the car came with out to 3k, ran the autorx with chevron 5-30, then just put in my rinse phase chevron 10-30 for another 2500 or so. Can't hurt! I am thinking about running either rotella synth 5-40, or possibly the amsoil extended drain oil and filter...

Buying an 02 Mazda protege5, 66k miles. AutoRX it?

I looked closely, and I hope the AAA inspection would catch it. It's a CA car, but spent some time in Reno. Looks OK though.

Buying an 02 Mazda protege5, 66k miles. AutoRX it?

Oh, [censored], manual, of course! It's low on power, with 130 ponies or so, and that sounds like [censored] with an auto. More fun to wring low-hp engines with a manual. :D The auto in these cars isn't very well made, anyway, I hear. It handles VERY well, better than my modified Subaru...
