The risk of not enough oil flow at startup due to the higher viscosity. I totally agree with you, just a scary thing to try when there's literally no temperature chart for reassurance.
So to clarify, you don't feel comfortable running 5W-40 on the Santa Fe? I'm in a hot climate, 2022 Santa Fe non-turbo, thinking of going from 0W-20 to 5W-30 or at least 0W-30 but don't want to take unnecessary risk. Temperature chart in the owners manual provides no info as expected
Interesting, thanks. I hadn't seen posts about higher consumption from other guys with Valvoline Restore and Protect.
Regarding the Ring Free, in a GDI engine the gasoline doesn't pass over the rings to clean them.
My GDI car burned Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-20 at a rate of 1qt per 1,000miles. Before Valvoline Restore and Protect I burned Pennzoil 5W-20 syn blend at 1qt per 3,000 miles, and after the one OCI with Valvoline Restore and Protect it went back to burning Pennzoil at a rate of 1qt per...
What about mixing straight SAE-30 with Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30? From my understanding it's conventional oil with no/minimal additives. SAE from SuperTech and Pennzoil are both API certified.
So for example if your car takes 4 quarts, 3.25qt of Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-30 +...
I appreciate all the comments and suggestions.
I could only get within a couple of inches with the borescope. Couldn't touch it after an hour of trying. Either it's buried in a wedge or I just couldn't move it around the right way. I drove home 40 miles at 3000-4000rpm and the check engine...
Had code P0420 so I checked it out with a bore scope and saw minor blockage on the catalytic converter.
Took out the upstream O2 sensor and sprayed some throttle body cleaner in there, and half way through the can, the straw fell down there.
Car is still cold. I can see the straw with the...
I've contacted Valvoline customer service twice this year, both times couldn't get a straight answer. They said it's "in production" even though it's already for sale in other countries. Maybe it takes a year to update the labeling for USA. Also tried calling Autozone for the Valvoline...
