Regarding dilution effect on cSt.
Is there a rule of thumb about it? Such as 5% fuel will bring cSt down 20%.
(Of course shear plays into it, but it's more nebulous or non-claculable)
There's also a train of thought out there that a thinner-w oil ( such as 0w-30) might be better for the cam phasers as they'll "pressure-up" quicker on cold start up.
Not ironically, Ford 3.5 EB owners manual does list 0w-30 as acceptable grade for very cold climates, but doesn't recommend NOT...

Not conclusive by any means, but how much decrease in cSt...
OP-Thanks for bringing your experiences here. I've been following several of these threads on another forum, and it seems the jury is still very much out on the phaser issue.
Many have had them replaced only to have within weeks or months the problem recurring, making oil wear or...

Same goes for the human body, within reason.
But that's the exception these days. LOL.

That's what I was thinking, and overthinking.
In my case, my ‘18 3.5 EB diluted with 3%...
Thanks some more! I'm a sorta old newb, but learning!
So for no good reason other than to see the difference in the next interval, I decided to go with Edge this go around, which is -B1 and SN+ as well as I'm still under warranty. And use the Motorcraft filter for the same reason.
The Edge...
Regarding the TBN, mine went from 6.7 (per Subies voa) to 2.7 in my uoa after 5k miles in my ‘18 EB 3.5. At which point I changed it. I'm not qualified to comment on projected longevity past 5k of this oil though.
OP-Thanks for bringing this here. Saw you there, and as best recall, the standard non-oil related explanations as to why this is happening came up.
Interestingly, some there think that a thinner oil might be beneficial or prophylactic? (insert sophomoric replies. LOL). Rationale being quicker...
Can anyone comment on TBN expected rate of decline in general when extending the OCI towards 10k or per the iOLM?
Does base drop linearly, logarithmically or exponentially?
I'm my case with my last UOA, the base number went from 6.7 to 2.7 in 5k miles, with the oil life indicator registering...
Gathermewool- Thanks and yes I'm reading lots here and on corperate websites. ðŸ‘🻠But I am a relative newb.
The link above only references and pertains to AFE 0w-30, none others quoted.
Good stuff cujet thank you too ðŸ‘ðŸ»
" Mobil 1 0W-30 is recommended by ExxonMobil for SAE 0W-30, 5W-30 and 10W-30 applications"
Seems like a broad statement to say the least. I've read their quality, builder approval and meets or exceeds stuff.
