    Wix oil filter design philosophy

There have been obvious manufacturering glitches at Wix especially around 2022-2023 as a result of labor and supply chain issues. Im hoping these issues have been addressed. Its not just at Wix but most everywhere during that time period.

    Wix oil filter design philosophy

Exactly! Wix purposely made the XP filter less efficient filtration wise so the contaminants will fill up slower. I guess this is part of the Wix XP design philosophy. Since I change oil before 5000 miles I do not need to worry about the filter filling up thus why I use the regular Wix filter.

    Wix oil filter design philosophy

The Wix website is an interesting read. https://www.wixfilters.com/en-us/support/training/wix-performance.html Basically.their standard Wix oil filter is designed around balancing out their 3 measures of oil filter greatness. The Wix XP filter is designed for extended drain intervals but its...

    5w-40 / 0w-40 Success!

As for gas mileage its simply not going to happen with these big engines pushing.300 to 400 horsepower. If gas mileage is your concern you need to look at a 4 cylinder engine or better yet a hybrid. Toyota has the hybrid Sienna where you get 30s mpg with a van that can hold more than a Suburban.

    5w-40 / 0w-40 Success!

The 2.7/3.0 Ford Ecoboost is the most reliable Ecoboost engine Ford makes. The jury is out on the new Gen 3 3.5 Ecoboost but it is more reliable than Gen 2 and does not have the same issues. The answer here is the 2.7/3.0 line of engines shouldnt need as much handholding and TLC. The Ford...

Viscosity: Engine protection Vs. enhanced mileage

I filled mine up with 5w-40, slapped a regular Wix on there and could not care less. 0w-16? No way unless the engine is clearly rejecting it, but I dont think it will.

Viscosity: Engine protection Vs. enhanced mileage

Here is the page on oil viscosity.for the Toyota Camry HEV sold in Europe. So Toyota does suggest thicker viscosity in Europe and in the Middle East its oils as thick as 15w-40 which Toyota provides in a branded silver bottle.

    5w-40 / 0w-40 Success!

I sometimes wonder why Ford didnt make the 8 quart pan universal to its vehicles.

Viscosity: Engine protection Vs. enhanced mileage

In.Toyotas European manual I believe it leaves open the option for 5w-30. In truly hot places like Iraq dealers and mechanics will put in the thickest oil available. In fact in Saudi Arabia Toyota dealers use 5w-40, 10w-40 and 15w-40. I would tell you to go with 5w-40 and dont look back...

    5w-40 / 0w-40 Success!

I can report back here that both myself and my buddies have had no issues using either 5w-40 or 0w-40 in either the Ford Ecoboost 3.5 or the GM 5.3 / 6.2 V8. Going into the future any vehicle we get in here will get 5w-40 unless there is some odd issue which prevents that. My buddy used 0w-40...

    Castrol vs Valvoline

I know and understand the importance of buying American. However the thread is really about which performs better. I used the search function prior to authoring this thread and came up with what I call cheerleading posts which did not provide any real information. I was looking for more analysis.

    Castrol vs Valvoline

My question was which product family would you choose if it came down to Castrol or Valvoline? I noticed Castrol has a good following here with many stating it has a high quality base stock. As for Valvoline I only see posts about R&P. Not too many on their other oils.

    Castrol vs Valvoline

Both are on sale right now. I did a search and found many different threads which seem to not come to any conclusions. So let me know your thoughts on which one you would choose.

Why isn't High Mileage oil the "standard" oil?

The main reason why oil companies have a lot of products is to make money.
