Well, I bought the PP and put it to the freezer test against the Hav and the results......a close call, but if it was a photo finish, I think the Hav would have it. I thought both oils were pretty thick for being just below freezing. Which flow stats are best to compare? MRV? I'll have to take a...
Anyone have the cold flow properties of Hav dino on hand??
How does this compare to the new PP for winter use?
The most recent PP specs are:
Platinum 5W-30 Group III (PDS dated July 2006):
MRV, at -35 degC: 14,800
CCS, at -30 degC: 5150
Pour Point, degC: -39
Those numbers seem respectable to me....I want to make the switch to synthetic before the new truck goes into its first Maine winter. I was thinking M1, but don't want to be overcharged for G3 oil. I have been on a havoline dino kick for years, but now I own something worth the extra...
Anyone have any thoughts or have done any analysis on havoline synthetic? Their dino has been reliable and consistent from what I gather, so how does the synthetic stack up?
Thanks for all your input!! I went with the Liquid Glass since it was readily available and had many good reviews. I was pleased with the ease of application and it actually rubbed off easier than the rain-x on my windows. It beads nicely and I will post back with a testament to durability. I...
I am also looking for a quality oil with a low pour point....I am running Havoline 5w30 now and was considering the switch to mobil 1 before the latest fiasco. Any idea on its cold flow properties? Is this strictly a group II oil? Better off with group III like PP?
What are your thoughts on the best bang for buck protective coating for a new silverado in graystone metallic? Preferably something easily attainable and this would be for hand application only.
NuFinish to harsh/extensive for new paint? Seems good for older vehicles.
Liquid Glass - leaning...
I haven't waxed a vehicle before, but now that I have a new ride I think I'll try the NuFinish. I'm not going to the car show and a once a year application sounds good to a guy looking for a little protection with minimal effort. Do you guys all use the clay bar before applying?
So Jim, you don't feel that much damage occurs during cold start up? Do others also feel this way? Is it just a scare tactic to have people but synthetics? Also, what do you feel is a good OCI for the tranny?
Thanks for the link.....Texaco Rust Proof Compound the best?? or LPS#3?? Any experiences?? Also anyone ever hear of having some kind of ground vapor barrier when parked on a gravel driveway?? My dad swears by parking his motorhome over a old paper machine screen.
