    M1 0w-40 going out of grade in 2500 miles;

    Caterham--thanks for the reply. I just recently picked a data logging program that will give me coolant and oil temps via a OBD II reader; with a little luck next year they may expand this to oil pressure also. It is currently displayed on the car's gauges--oil pressure and temps--but until I...

    M1 0w-40 going out of grade in 2500 miles;

    I hear what you're saying, Doug--Raby went out of his way to broach this topic so I'm guessing his got something back that up other than a notion on this. We'll see, since he's got more info on what he's doing on the 9A1 engine coming out soon. BTW, I looked up a few of my old oil samples--if I...

    M1 0w-40 going out of grade in 2500 miles;

    Yes, I'm aware of that doug. What Raby was saying was that he thinks many of the engine failures he's seen -- originally attributed to oil starvation --are more likely engine failures due to oil thinning due to high oil oil temps.

    M1 0w-40 going out of grade in 2500 miles;

    Thanks for all the responses. The data that I've seen is the basic test, without the HTHS figure. As wear number were below the universal averages and roughly what the first sample showed without the track days. What prompts my questions was an article in the Dec. Panorama with Jake Ruby's...

    M1 0w-40 going out of grade in 2500 miles;

    A friend with a new Porsche Cayman has been changing his oil religiously after every 2 track events and taking samples for analysis. Everything in the analysis has looked good--minimal wear, low fuel %--except falling out of grade to the 100 deg. C viscosity rating of 11.0-11.3 in only 2500...

    Switching back to M1...

    I've got an 06 Boxster that spends some time at the track. I'm currently using Lubro Moly #2040 partial synthetic 5W-40. I have no issues with it. I moved away from M1 when I started hearing a lot of valve train noises when hot. Switch to Castrol Edge, then Lubro Moly. I would highly recommend...

    Mixing Castrol syntec for a track day

    Thanks for the reply. I was hoping to avoid dumping the entire crankcase since the oil has less that 1K on it. I hear what you're saying about the Porsche rating, but M1 0W-40 is on that list and I have to say after a couple track days, the engine did get noisy. I think the ACEA ratings mean...

    Mixing Castrol syntec for a track day

    A few weeks back, my mechanic replaced the M1 that was in the car--at my request --with Castrol syntec. I asked for 5W-40 but when he went tot he auto parts store all they had was 5W-30. I have to say this has made the engine much quieter (2.7L Boxster) but after I checked out the Hot temp...
