24 cummins and a 15 mile highway commute. I have a CTS3 monitor, and my EGT2 and EGT3 PIDs monitored.
Truck gets up to temp fine, and EGTs get up into the high 700s, which is fine for a passive regen.
IMO its just fine. Oil samples well too.
I have a 2024 so have only change the oil ~5ish times on it so far.
This is the hardest part, but you kinda learn how to do it with time. I do try to avoid pre-filling the filter to the absolute top. That filter holds a lot of oil, and it can get too heavy to hold out with your arm extended...
Newer ones are pretty quiet. My Honda with a GCV170 engine is extremely quiet for a gas motor. Generally speaking though, I don't think OPE is that loud unless we're talking about 2-strokes.
Well, here it is.
I'm a little surprised at the lack of machining metal to be honest. We bought my wife a 2023 Honda Pilot last year, and I cut the factory filter on that one and there was a lot of little silver flakes.
Not much here. I cut it open with a sawzall, and I think those large...
Did my first oil change on a 2024 Ram 6.7 Cummins. Nothing super special, but it was my first time cutting open a diesel filter. These things are WAY more robust than the Motorcraft FL-500S type filter I'd been using on my old truck.

Dang, that's quite the endorsement.
I said I was gonna stay away from boutique oils (and I think that still holds true), but I think I'm going to run AMSOIL 10w30 synthetic diesel oil. It's about the same price per gallon as most of the other contenders, and people may complain about AMSOIL...
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I guess I just need to decide if go 10w30 or 5w40. I've seen a few reports that 10w30 just runs better in these motors, but it seems like the overwhelming majority of people (and dealers) are running 5w40.
Lots to decide.
Hey Guys,
New to maintaining a modern diesel, and not the oil expert many on this forum are.
I have a new 2024 Cummins 6.7 with 600 miles on it. Although I don't need to change the oil yet, I want to get my stockpile built up.
I was planning to run Rotella T6 5w40 in this truck, but I've...
That's crazy.
I regularly shoot 1,000 yard F-Class in F-T/R (a division that's caliber limited to .308s) with rifles that are custom throated to run the 200.20x Hybrid, and our loads are already ~3-5gr over book max with Varget/N150. Anything beyond ~1,300 gets very, very sporty in my...
Humidity makes all difference.
I would much prefer 100 with 15% humidity than I would 70 with 95% humidity. Same can be said for when it's cold...basically it makes you feel colder when it's cold, and hotter when it's "warm".
I do a lot of recreational activity just south of Houston, and my...
You're on a newer generation Coyote than me, but in my 2014 I ran 5w-20 for ~105,000 miles. No oil consumption issues, but I have always encountered a 'tick' from the motor (I purchased it with 8 miles on the odometer). Some 5w-20 oil/filter seem 'quieter' than others, but they all do it to some...
