any high-tolerance german auto maker's non-approval of GC is purely political and nothing technical.

well i've done more reading and realize i was making an assuption based on an over-generalization. GC is thicker than Syntec 5W-30 at operating temperature but thinner at cold start temperature. I base that on one of FD777's main points in his 'thin oil myth' thread and also AndyH's cold start...
