    Old oil can

So I looked at it this morning (it’s on my desk at work) and there is some embossed print on the top. It looks to be: SAE 10w 20w-30 For services SE-CC-MS Which should make it 1971-1979 vintage. Which is exactly what I thought it was and was hoping for when I bought it. This is a gift for my...

    Old oil can

I will look tomorrow morning and post up a picture of the top and bottom. But it is plain as near as I remember. When did they start printing API ratings on them? I think it is In the window of: after going cardboard but before the API ratings were being printed. Heres a link to one being sold...

    Old oil can

It doesn’t have one that I can find. No printing on the top either so I think it is older than the one posted above.

Under the valve cover - 2002 Outback H6

Because the g powers will last for 60k miles. And at that point, the plugs are out lasting the rest of the car. The engine may well have another 100k in it, but the rest of the car does not.

    Old oil can

Does anyone have an educated guess how old this oil can might be? I’m not asking about oil cans in general, but this specific can/design. My guess is the late 70’s but I can’t find any other examples or advertising that matches the cans design. Anyone have any educated guesses?

Under the valve cover - 2002 Outback H6

Here’s the other side. It was leaking as well. Spark plugs were NGK irridum with about 60k on them. Probably had quite a bit of life in them but changed them out with some NGK g-power while I was in there. drivers side is harder than the passenger side. The bottom bolt is a nightmare. Spent 30...

Under the valve cover - 2002 Outback H6

If I used oil that was $16/qt I would have to run it 25,000 miles for it to make sense. I'm not pulling the valve covers ever again..... they weren't fun. I'm going to do the other one, but only because I'm afraid it is about to do the same thing the first one did.

I should change it to “behind the cam covers”. Duly noted :)

Under the valve cover - 2002 Outback H6

I’ll look up the service history in the first 60k miles tomorrow. We bought it from her uncle and I think his note book is still in the console. He was an electrical engineer for Boeing and is fastidious by nature, so I would expect very frequent changes. I also know he lived quite a ways from...

Under the valve cover - 2002 Outback H6

really Never short trips in this car. When the wife drove it every day it was 35 miles one way to work and then back home. We did give it to her mom and dad for about 3 years. They short tripped it, but I don’t think they put on even 10,000 miles in that 3 years. Now it sees daily duty under...

Under the valve cover - 2002 Outback H6

I had a valve cover go WiFi on me in my 2002 Subaru Outback H6 so I did an R&R on the affected side. It was leaking profusely with a steady stream coming out so it had to be parked until it was fixed. Anyway, while doing the gasket I snapped a couple of pictures just for fun. 2002 Outback H6...

Sbc mild cam after break in - CK-4 Rotella T4 10w30?

Very similar situation with the same engine and similar cam upgrade. I settled on Rotella T6 5w-40. 3 years in and so far so good.

2016 Ford Edge 6F35 fluid change

Doing the PTU at 30,000 was probably smart money. You may not every need to do it again, but regular maintenance will keep you in the good for sure. The transmissions are similar but are different. The book lists 6f35, 6f45 and 6f55. I would assume the 3.5 is using the 55, which is a beefed up...

2016 Ford Edge 6F35 fluid change

Thanks for the response. Ours has the 2.0 ecoboost. Very pleased with the engine. Plenty of snort for a commuter car. Decent mileage given the size of the car.
