I’m not sure Mobil 1ow40 still has the LL 01 approva. I’ve been reading and many of the well informed posters suggest the both of these 0w40s are superior even without the LL 01 I believe
Just a short question about the two Pennzoil Euros. The 5w40 is $52 for 6 quarts and the 0w40 is about $26 on Walmart for 5 quarts. Most importantly is one oil technically superior than the other ?
Just a little news about a good oil. Castrol Euro 0w40 just arrived from Amazon (purchased at new lowered price of $28.95). It states it is made in Belgium ( and not packaged in USA)- a good sign. It has the MB 229.5 but not the BMW LL 01 approval.
Hi Edyvw and other thoughtful posters - One of my main questions was would a non 0w40 result in lower oil consumption. Here I believe the answer is probably not - am I reading this correctly? I can accept and would enjoy any rationale. As always, thanks Edyvw and all.
Hoping the change will lead to reduced oil consumption-my e46 has been losing a good bit of oil while using the Castrol 0w40 euro. I read oil with 30 or less spread might burn off less.
A little follow up and a question about oil in my e46. Happily after changing the oil filter gasket I’m loosing very little oil after 700 miles. However I have used Castrol Ow40 euro for 10 years plus and always lost a quart of oil every 1000 miles or less. Now it has Pennzoil Euro 0w40 for...
Thank you for your thoughtful post. My mechanic said $800-900. I’m of the same mind as Scott and will skip the oil pan gasket if the car goes back to using 1 quart a 1000 miles I’ve heard the Quaker state is great oil and pretty much Pennzoil euro
Hi Scott and all- A small update- after replacing the oil filter housing gasket and then driving this week 350 miles the car’s oil level changed very little. Keeping my fingers crossed that this keeps up. Car has Pennzoil euro 0w40 right now.
