I've got a n52, oil hungry stage 1 n63tu, n20 and a B58. This last round I ran mobile 1 0W40 and the oil consumption seemed higher than Castrol 5w40 in the n52 and n63tu. Really only want to have to stock 1 oil but i could see maybe 2.
Everything in this list is available without much pain and...
your n52 consumes less than my 2006. They did revise the valve cover and pcv system for 2007 so maybe that is why. The car seems to more or less consume the same amount of oil at 220k as it did when i got it at 100k. Which is around 1 quart every 3k. Ive been running 10k oil changes on this car...
they crack and leak like edyvw said. Also theres a check valve in the regulator assembly that can go bad and lead to long cranks because rail pressure isnt held. my 2006 330i made it to around 210k before i the check valve gave up.
hows the oil consumption on the M1 0-40 FS Euro SP vs QS Euro 5w-40? I had been running castrol 5w40 in my n52 and n63tu and did m1 0w40 this last round. the oil consumption in both cars has been much higher.
I'm that guy with another higher mileage n20. I gave up on figuring out where my wear metals are coming from. Car runs fine and at this point isnt worth much. I'd want to disclose the condition of the engine to someone buying so i can sleep at night so that doesnt help either...
Checking in at 157,4xx. I replaced the turbo again about 2k ago. The refurb unit i put in at 119k to address the wastegate being worn out... wore out even faster and was in way worse condition. New turbo is another refurb but looks much higher quality. Did oil filter housing gasket and water...
Finally got around to checking the cylinders out with a new borescope. Some observations
-bores look like they are in good shape. some light vertical scratching. I suppose this isnt a surprise since the engine uses nearly no oil.
-build up on intake valves looks fine. BMW must have figured this...
Small update. its been just over 3000miles since i got it going again. It continues to run perfectly fine. I learned that ISTA has a way of checking all fuel grade history for the car. I pulled that and the car had 0 "low grade fill ups" 456 "medium" and 113 "high" grade fill ups. Its rated my...
When i was looking at fuel trims the lambda seemed to make sense. Around 1 for light loads and then richening up with higher loads. Seemed similar to when i played with scanner with the n63. Good thought on checking higher loads and doing some logs, should see short term fuel trim be close to...
other question i suppose is if this detonation is still happening. Could be a knock sensor issue or something.
If this detonation damage is old, its approaching being over 34k miles old... which I think bodes well for it having life left.
guides looked ok on the borescope. Slack is checked...
Took apart and inspected the entire intake track. Found some specs of what i think is dirt in the pipes. If there was fine dirt in small quantities it wouldnt be noticeable because of the oil film from the PCV system. I found no cracks or anything that would be letting in large amounts of dirt...
No timing chain noise or changes in inside of engine noises in the time weve owned the car (112k - 147k).
Im still marching down the dirt in the intake path. I pulled the turbo discharge to the intercooler off the other night to take a look. I did find a few specs of granules of something that...
I logged data on a few drives and found that under constant loads the engine is targetting the same amount of fuel per injector. It strays apart a bit during load changes which might be the engine trying to close the loop per cylinder or probably more likely when the sample is taken since its...
I idled the car for a awhile to get it warm before taking the sample. It wasnt full oil temp. wasnt a complete cold start since the car had been driven 3 hours or so earlier. I understand this isnt ideal but with kids the time i have to do this stuff is at night after they are in bed, in the...
I dont see how the chain could be reahing out to touch alumnum anywhere without the guides being basically destroyed.
I inspected the timing guide with a bore scope last night and found no issues. There are common places i have seen people find cracks in the guides before they come completely...
