First one is Excellium DID 5w-40. It is mainly for VW TDI engine which requires VW 505.01 approval. Only fews are out there to meet this requirement
Seconde one is Excellium LDX 5w-40. It has VW 502 (gasoline) and 505 (Diesel) approval. Your 1.8t engine must use vw 502 approved oil.

How about Elf XT 3825 0w-20 racing oil, http://www.turbofrogperformance.com/Products/Engine/ELF_HTX.htm ? It says the viscoity at 100F is 8.1 cSt and its HTHS is 2.6. Do you guys think that Renault F1 team uses this oil in their racing engine?
Wow, today I found out Elf HTX Competition Oils. http://www.turbofrogperformance.com/Products/Engine/ELF_HTX.htm I thought these were only available in Europe, Australia and Japan. I guess Elf is really serious about bringing high quality lubricants to the States.

My brother uses Elf LDX 5w40 on his 1.8t Passat Wagon. He seems to like this oil very much. It is bit pricey when compared to GC and M1 0w40. By the way, Elf LDX, GC and M1 0w40 have VW 502 approval.
