I should have known. Napa gold was a REAL disappointment!

So, why do my magnets stick?

Gents, I'm using a Fram Titanium oil filter on my '15 Chevy Volt. Of course, being a geek, I have magnets and a pair of FilterMags on the filter (FS3980 in case anyone's curious). Now I'm wondering if I've been scammed. The magnets are sticking to the filter just fine, but titanium is not...

Is there any amsoil bypass vs frantz TP bypass

Back in the late 70's, when I was living in the dorms at college, we bought several Frantz filters. They DO look like toilet paper rolls, but they can't be unwound. We waited until the night of an Animal House level drunken party, and replaced all the toilet paper rolls in the bathroom with...

    Chevy Volt Oil Change Intervals

The car's manual says trust the OLM. The OLM says two years is fine. The oil manufacturer says change at one year (at most). I've bothered to read the car's manual. I've bothered to read the oil's documentation. They disagree. THAT'S why I've asked the question.

We're in the same situation. All electric around town.

    Chevy Volt Oil Change Intervals

I'm following the OLM - I'm at one year, 4 months and it tells me I have 35% left. This tells me it's using the time limit for my numbers. Back when I asked Mobil 1 if I could obey GM's OLM and put two years on their oil, they said "Absolutely not!"

    Chevy Volt Oil Change Intervals

We use the engine so little that the OLM is essentially a two year countdown timer.

    Chevy Volt Oil Change Intervals

Gents, I have a 2015 Chevy Volt. It runs like an electric car for the first 40 miles of a trip. If you drive beyond that, the engine turns on. IIRC, it's a 1.4 liter detuned Chevy Cruse engine. GM requires Dexos 1 oil. Their oil life monitor tracks how much the engine is used, and how much...

    Why so short?

My only car with a gas engine is a 2015 Chevy Volt. Typically, it only runs on the battery/electric side of the power train - we charge it every night. The engine is only used for longer distance trips (exceeding about 38 miles in a day). Effectively, the oil is only used during road trips. The...

Question: What REALLY matters for a motor oil?

Folks, I've seen all too many YouTube videos where people test the lubricity of a motor oil on a lubricity tester, test its cold flow performance, and test how much is lost when it is kept at a high temperature for a few hours. I think the lubricity test is somewhat bogus - nowhere in an...

Dumb Question? M1 5W-30 AP vs M1 5W-30 EP - Why chose one over the other?

And now, this thread dies a slow, painless death, drifting off, eroded by the sands of time, and all but forgotten. In several decades, perhaps a century or two, it will be uncovered by some digital archaeologist wondering how we dealt with motor oil back in the early 21st century. RIP my dear...

Dumb Question? M1 5W-30 AP vs M1 5W-30 EP - Why chose one over the other?

As promised, Mobil's Response to my question: __________________________________________________________________________________ Kirk, Thanks for writing to us. While there are some slight formulation differences, the most important difference is going to be availability. Mobil 1 Annual...
