New Acquisition - 2006 Mini Cooper S - Maintenance advice

It's been a few years, but the last time I had the supercharger off of a Mini it was chasing a coolant leak, and if memory serves there were two (I think) aluminum covers bolted to the front of the engine block that were sealed with O-rings, and that was where it was leaking from. Absolutely...

    2001 Ford Ranger 5R55E 1-2 Shift Issue

I used to rebuild these for Ford back in the dark ages. Seems like they had problems with the valve body separator plate gasket blowing out and causing weird shift flare, but I can't remember which gears you'd lose. Maybe check out TSB 03-22-10 for the valve body gasket update?

Disabling Smart Alternator on 2019 Sentra ?

Nissan actually has a service bulletin for this vehicle and concern, number ntb19-099e. The TLDR version is test and either charge or replace the battery and reprogram the ECM. Presumably they modified the charging system strategy.

Scan tool with free lifetime update

Just in the last couple days I've used my Thinkscan to test the valve pause system on a 10 year old Honda Odyssey, cleared transmission adapts and performed a misfire profile correction relearn on a newer Ford Expedition, and connected to a 2025 Jeep Gladiator through Autoauth just to see if it...

Scan tool with free lifetime update

I actually got one of these last week to use as at work as a backup to my Autel Ultra tablet. It's pretty fast; so far it appears to be full featured and have used it a couple times for bi-directional controls and it worked well. Updates were free and worked fine as soon as I hooked it up to...

Substandard repair work after truck damage - advice/help?

It does appear there is a box side listed as "pre drilled for fender mouldings", so my guess is that the fenders are different, but GM doesn't list it as ZR2 or not, just by RPO code. Only way to really know would be to look your fender up by the truck's VIN number and compare it to what got...

    Yamada water pumps

I've installed somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 or so of the Aisin belt and water pump kits on Honda V-6s since this thread started, and none of them made enough noise that it registered to even look into it, nor have we had any customer complaints or comebacks.

Test drove a Jeep with rotten egg smell

Short trips can cause the cats to get loaded up with fuel and stink like sulfur once they get hot. May just need a couple hours on the interstate to clear it up. I agree with Chris though too, seeing if the monitors have all run is a good idea too.

Fans on these are junk, we replace them all the time.

Unknown brand filter C&P; 20K miles

I'd say there is a chance, although I agree with you, it's pretty unlikely. We've had a few over the years that got burned by the bargain joints that ended up turning into good customers though.

Unknown brand filter C&P; 20K miles

Came off of a 2016-ish Infiniti QX60 with the 3.5 liter engine, 105,000 or so miles. Vehicle backstory was that it had been dragged out of a snowbank and had been sitting; We did some brake work, and had to replace a rear lower control arm that whomever did the pulling turned into an S, as well...

    Fail-Pro Gaskets

I've used Stone gaskets multiple times and haven't had to warranty any. Admittedly exponentially less usage than Felpro though, so a pretty small sample.

    Auto parts commercial accounts

Our shop is affiliated with both Napa and Auto Value, a midwest independent chain. Both allow us to offer nationwide 3/36 warranty and are easily the fastest deliverers, with AV usually being least expensive, followed by Napa, whose prices seem to fluctuate based on number of dollars spent in a...

    Fail-Pro Gaskets

We've seen a run on Fel-pro stuff needing warranty replacement come through the shop recently too. A handful of sets of valve cover gaskets, and a couple of rear main seals as well. Decided from then on out OE rear main seals were the only good option, and have gone to either Mahle or Victor...

Mystery part on a 2008 3.0 Ford Duratec

The piece in the center of the picture that's kind of rust colored is 100% a direct ignition coil boot. There is a spring that goes in the center that's the contact between the coil and the spark plug. I assume that's what you're talking about without any more clarification.
