    The Valve Experiment

When my son was racing motorcross (4 strokes were new and only were lasting about 60 hours before needing a rebuild), I started mixing 1 ounce of 2 stroke oil and 1 ounce of a boutique fuel conditioner to every tank of gas. Don’t know if we just got lucky, or if it helped but we sold the bike...

EP Additives in Motorcycle oil for the gears?

My observation is motorcycle oils aren’t supposed to have friction modifiers because they will cause clutch slippage. In my experience and opinion this is nonsense. If you look at oil analysis for both types of oil there isn’t much difference for most. Moly is supposed to be the big no no yet...

20W-50 to 10W-40? Is it safe?

I am a fan of thinner oil, however with an air cooled engine I wouldn’t recommend it. I used Mobil 1 15W50 in my Harley twin cam 103 for over 60,000 miles and good results if you can get it. It’s a synthetic and reasonably priced

    GL-5 = Hypoid ?

    Thanks. Just looking to confirm

    GL-5 = Hypoid ?

Simple question. If it’s a GL-5 gear lube is it a Hypoid gear oil? I noticed many 80w90 GL-5 gear oils don’t list “Hypoid “ on the bottle, but I always thought they are. Thanks.

Harley-Davidson; new OEM filter supplier - MAHLE

The previous H. D. Filter was also a solid unit. When I had my Harley I used the Wix because I hate buying ANYTHING HD. But they were both well made and similarly priced.

    Any VOA requests?

Yes. Jaso is a certification for shared sump ( same oil for engine, transmission and wet clutch), motorcycles

    Any VOA requests?

I would also like to thank you for all of your effort. I would like to see any metric (Jaso), 10W30 or 40 oil

    Amsoil metric oil

Exactly. Look at the oil analysis of the oils and you see there’s NO secret sauce in, or left out, of Motorcycle oils. It’s a fairytale that’s been repeated so many times it’s become gospel.

Current user of T6, but what do you experts think of this Fram 15w-40 made by Amalie

I have over 400,000 miles on expensive high H. P. Bikes and have NEVER used a Jaso (motorcycle), oil. Never replaced a clutch or had one slip. Look at All The oil analysis, virgin and used and show where they have some special additives ( or leave out something), so the clutch won’t slip. Some...

    ZRX1200 Redline 20w-50, 5k mi

I run Mobil 1 0W40 (fs),Euro in my shared sump 2018 GoldWing 3800 miles and it sheared to 10.33cst (a mid -low 30 wt). That’s perfect for the wing since they spec a 30wt anyway. Point is that krl test doesn’t shear it as much as a shared sump motorcycle. Wing is probably a little easier on oil...

    Motul 3000 4T

You raise an interesting point about the “concentration “ of zinc in the oil. This is an analysis using Mobil 1 (fs) 0W40 euro in my 2018 (new generation), GoldWing shared sump. Zinc tested at 1077 ppm. That’s slightly higher than Mobil published (1025 as I remember), zinc content in that oil...

    Motul 3000 4T

If you change your oil at reasonable intervals Zinc levels aren’t really important. Zinc is only used under high pressure/temperature environments. Then it’s Used up. So higher zinc levels don’t mean MORE protection, but rather LONGER protection. Just like gasoline in your tank doesn’t mean a...

    Lucas Oil

Wouldn’t use any of their stuff. Oil stabilizer??? Why would my oil need to be stabilized?

    Mobil 1 15w50 vs Mobil 1 15w50 Racing 4T

That’s not correct but a common myth. Redline motorcycle oils for example have higher moly amounts than many automotive oils.
