    Longevity of spark plug wires

Have only replaced wires once, and that was on an 83 Ford LTD that had an engine fire when trying to start it in sub-zero weather with starter fluid. New wires & plugs and it was good to go. All the car/truck sites I'm on I'm always seeing: Replaced plugs & wires; replaced wires & plugs. Of...

    More Takata recall: Ford Rangers

In response to exranger06, I got a recall notice in July for my 2006 Ranger, but it was for the passenger side only. Letter said they would notify me when parts were available.....still waiting!!!! My Ranger has the option to turn the passenger airbag on or off (for when you're hauling a kid in...

    Expensive headlight!

Back in the 60's, a headlight for my 57 Ford was $2.00. I was poor, so for 6 months, everytime it went out, I would smack the lens real hard with my palm, and it would work for a couple more weeks!

Selling a car for more money. Capital gain?

Two different areas; so people selling all that junky stuff in their garage sale need to report it?----And what about all those rich dudes selling cars at Barrett-Jackson for hundreds of thousands of dollars--do they have to report the sale as income?

what does the foam sleeve do on a wet dry vac?

On my 5 gal. shop vac, directions say if dry vacuuming, put foam filter on and cover with cloth cover. If wet vacuuming, take cloth cover off and use foam filter only. If dry vacuuming something like dry wall dust, and you don't use the foam filter, then I think you get a lot of dust blowing...

    wiper blade "ritual"

My problem is I've always just bought the blade inserts and put them in the old blade-arms (cheap guy). Now all I can find is the whole blade and wiper for $15++, and nobody seems to carry just the rubber inserts.

Do ignition keys have to have chips in them?

Work-arounds. On Fords, if you have 2 chipped keys, you can get a chipped key off someplace like E-bay, get it cut at the hardware store, and program it yourself. Also, I've heard if you have a cut regular key, if you tape the chipped key to the underside of the steering column, you can use the...

    Never ending Ranger problems-

Be sure to use only Motorcraft replacement for the camshaft synchro, even though they cost about twice as much. Everything else just doesn't seem to hold up.

    Ever have a spring break?

Had a 97 Windstar that Ford got in trouble with on the front springs. Ford's solution was to insert a small metal plate between the tire and the top of the spring so the tire wouldn't throw junk on the spring. Spring broke anyway. Ford had a warranty thing that they would replace the springs no...

    retractable antenna

My 2002 Taurus wagon has one, so I'm guessing at least Taurus wagons up through 2007 had one. Had to replace the staff once because the wife kept going through the car wash and forgetting to put it down and it got all mangled. Only car I ever owned that had one. I guess if you live in a ghetto...

    Direct Fit Floor Mats

Would love to have a set of the WeatherTech floor liners, but my Ranger has a vinyl floor and WeatherTech says the mats won't work. Anybody ever have the WeatherTech's with a vinyl floor, and how did they work out?

    How did you learn Stick-shift?

Turned 16 in 1966--Dad bought a 57 2-dr. Ford with 3 on the tree for me, $100, and threw me the keys. We lived on a small court (circle)--stalled it 2 times getting around the circle, the 3rd time took off and never looked back. By 1992, had 3 daughters (set of twins, and one 9 months older)...

    TV reality car shows question

Getting kind of addicted to all these car shows on TV. Question is, I never hear anyone talk about titles, plates, or insurance. Do these guys have some type of fleet plan, blanket insurance coverage, or what? They're always out testing these vehicles that haven't ran in 30 years---so are they...
