Fixing my Hein Warner Jack caster?

I don’t have it nearby but agree I need measurements. It seems like there are a few more options than I had anticipated. Ideally I can service the bearings. I like the matched metal wheels. I have a small HF aluminum jack, it is indeed best in its classic but I don’t intend to buy more...

Lithium ion battery explosion in my garage.

There’s a reason why the Navy has the 9310 instruction for Li-ion batteries, applied afloat AND ashore… Li-ion safety is serious stuff!

Fixing my Hein Warner Jack caster?

My Hein-Warner Jack, owned for nearly 20 years. Never was a huge fan of the casters, because on the nut side of the unit (long bolts running through the body), the caster wouldn’t turn all the way. But I’ve dealt with it for 20 years. Recently it got really bad. I think my wife clunked this...

United 108 IAD-MUC Engine failure at 1,000 feet on takeoff

I was going to ask about this… I recall when growing up, once driving on the NJTP near EWR, in a light rain. All of a sudden the wipers got real streaky. Weren’t working right. My friend’s father, who was driving, claimed it was because the aircraft was dumping fuel. Dousing cars on the...

Front left clunk due to change from deceleration to acceleration

I can’t see any issues with any of them. Lifted and did play tests for each ball joint. Looked again at the bushings. Nothing to see. Indeed it was helpful. I can’t say that there’s any play when I jack up the car and pull on the cv axles in any direction, no motion at all. No play. If I...

Newly rebuilt bbc 489 stroker. Break in thoughts?

Agree. OP, it’s a pretty awesome project/machine. In the big scheme of things, going a while on conventional won’t make a lick of difference. I’d run what is recommended with confidence, and at some later point, 500, 1200, 2500, go to M1 15w-50 or whatever you choose, and use with confidence.

    2025 Ram SO Hurricane

Did they report oil temps in those cases?

Thinking of HPL 10w-30 NO VII for Dakota

Precisely. Those would be rationale that would make sense. Tell me what? You asked for opinions. And you have yet to define consistently the problem you’re wanting to solve. Now it went from “concerns” about its oils to the interest in supporting a small company? Ok. Great. A month ago it...

Thinking of HPL 10w-30 NO VII for Dakota

I’m not sure why you bring Wayne into this. Is he the world expert? The only opinion in all the world that matters? Is he the first person who has used HDEO in a gas engine? I’ve known Wayne a long time, and have a ton of respect for him and how he runs the site, but the answer to all of that...

Thinking of HPL 10w-30 NO VII for Dakota

Not much faith?!? Ok. I guess the millions of the cars in the road going to the junkyard with a fine engine would beg to differ. Engines that fail have other issues, not because of some imagined issue in OTS oils. Doubly so with HDEOs. If you want to run an HDEO, great. I have no...

Thinking of HPL 10w-30 NO VII for Dakota

Funny. Logic from 40 years ago with engines far longer lived than your Dakota allowed 10w-30 in such temperatures. Nothing new and no fancy oils required. Fancy high end oils have their place. I run HPL in two of my vehicles. But you have yet to give a compelling use case. It’s your...

Front left clunk due to change from deceleration to acceleration

Crazy. Wonder if that’s because of obsolete computers for diagnosis, or what. Most work doesn’t change between a 50yo car and a modern one. Back in the early 2000s, I took some diesels to the then-local dealer, and they had the foreman work on it because he had the most expertise. But...

Thinking of HPL 10w-30 NO VII for Dakota

That’s not what this shows. It indicates to only use 5w-30 UP TO 32F; and to not run 10w-30 below 0F. Look at the direction of the arrows, and which end is squared off versus pointing direction.

STEAK: which cut is your favorite?

A little bit, sure. But the gobs and gobs of it that often comes on them? No thanks.

Front left clunk due to change from deceleration to acceleration

That’s how I tested it exactly. No movement to note. Note the noise is only when the drivetrain is braked hard, so something shifts. lol not exactly diy-centric then, is it? I don’t think that this audit is necessary to answer a simple question on practices to diagnose a clunk. But 201k...
