BIL bought a 2016 Challenger with a bad valve train tick for cheap and was planning on a new engine. On a gamble we took the valve covers off, did some hunting and found the cams all looked OK. We ended up changing one rockerarm that had bad needle bearings. Read something about the oil galleys...
Donaldson P55175 crossreferences according to some sources. Some sources seem to have the wrong picture associated with that number and some show what seems to be the right filter. I'm also not sure if any place around me stocks Donaldson filters, I know I can get Baldwin and the Wix/Napa filter...
I will give it to GM for using 7 main bearings in their sixes. Ford figured 4 was plenty and offered it all the way up to the 600 series trucks with only a few changes like timing gears instead of a chain.
Apparently the Fords were full pressure when they came out with those new-fangled overhead valve inline 6's and Y-block V8's. The 215 (later 223) was part of that first batch. The ancestor of the 240 and 300 sixes, if you will.
I have been tempted, but NOS filter media and rubber gaskets of indeterminate age doesn't inspire much confidence in me. At least the Wix is still available, but with the Mann-Hummel debacle who knows what's going on. I'd imagine this filter is a pretty slow mover on shelves nowadays, with most...
I have noticed rock auto only seems to bring up the right filter if you search for 58 or earlier. I'd trust the 1957-63 Ford Truck Master Parts Catalog over Rock Auto though. :)
I haven't been able to find that Fram anywhere but Ebay unfortunately. It also seems like most of the filters on that list which I've definitely seen before aren't made anymore or are not the correct part at all.
From what I've been told, the truck was delivered with no mirrors, and it still has the rubber plugs in the doors when that was the case. It had some broken and corroded but nearly identical ones on it when I got it. Those are the new ones. The style grew on me. Lots of old trucks ended up with...
I have a 1959 Ford F-100 that has been in my family since it was new. It's been a work horse and near daily driver ever since and that's still not changing after the original unopened solid lifter 223 six cylinder finally started knocking after 66 years. Unknown mileage though. Odometer was...
