    Are you brand loyal?

I can't say loyal but I am more confident when I use a brand I am familiar with and used in the past like Castrol Edge or Mobil 1. There is a brand I wanted to try Fuchs (German company) which is widely available where I live but I only tried it on my Toyota pickup and didn't (or wouldn't?) try...

I changed the oil without changing the filter?

In one of my cars I change oil every 10k while in others ever 3k. Its not a good idea to keep the same filter especially with longer intervals oil changes (15000 or 20000).

I changed the oil without changing the filter?

Maybe your dad changes his oil every 3k like most old folks used to. I know some people who change their cars' oil every 15k which a filter must be changed with every oil change.

What's the best oil for my use case?

I've just recently changed my Yukon's oil. Last change, I tried Mobil 1 Fs 0w40 which was good but it seems to be cheaper in the U.S. than anywhere else. Where I live, it is $13 a quart which is expensive. Now I am trying the Castrol Edge 5w30 (black bottle) which so far seems good and it was a...

What's the best oil for my use case?

Its a good oil but I agree. Maybe due to oil prices averaging above $100 in the last couple months.

Trying to liquidate my excess oil this year.

I stored a friction of what you have for a while and everyone was home was frustrated. Can't imagine what they're reaction if I was as brave as you.

    0W-20 in 5W-20 Engine

Its maybe not economically wise but it definitely will not have any negative effect. light towing and summer coming, why not try 5w30!

    Castrol 10w-30 vs Mobil 15w-40

Severe condition (extreme hot weather, pickup etc..) use the 15w40 grade. Otherwise use 10w30.

Help with oil type and weight selection

for your car and climate 20w50 would be best but of course it needs to be changed more often because its conventional. I usually recommend 0w40 but not in your case as you state its not a daily drive, its would be more expensive and not necessarily better.

What's the best oil for my use case?

5w30 in winter, 5w40 in summer. 0w40 all year in not a bad idea (Castrol, Mobil, Pennzoil).

What Oil Should I Use for GMC Yukon 2019 in a VERY HOT Summer

Thank you all for your helpful comments. So I see that most replies see no issue in running 0w40 weight as I am doing right now. As it is time to change my oil now (6k miles) I went to my dealership and they warned me that using ANYTHING other than the 0w20 written in the cap would cause harm to...

Is there any practical benefit to letting a passenger car oil warm up before driving?

I always warm up the car because thats what I learned from my father in the old days when he warms up the car before going to school. Thats maybe old news but I still do it now. In winter (which is not very cold here) I let it for at least 2 minutes. In warm weather its 30 sec to a minute...

Would you use 0W30 instead of 0W20?

Its really far away in in the middle of nowhere where it almost never gets cold and the summer it reaches 50c. Not many places like that so i'll let you guess that one.
