How much $$ do you usually put into your cars?

I look at it like this, how much are you likely to spend on one car payment? $200, $300 (I'm not sure, I've never bought a new car)? Now, say you spend $800 on a repair, that's a lot of money. But, if you bought a new car you'd be paying say $300 a month for a payment, so that repair is only 3...

    Killing the car guy?

That's true now, but my parent's 1984 Toyota Van was completely assembled in Japan. Same goes with 70s 80s. Era Mercedes. I agree that the big 3 make reliable vehicles now. I was referring to older American cars that were lucky to go 80,000 without an engine or tranny rebuild. My dad's an...

    Killing the car guy?

It's a mixed bag. Gas is more expensive, but (many) cars get considerably better mileage than they used to. Cars cost a lot more, but they have a considerably better safety system than in the past. They also last considerably longer. From what I recall, up until about the late 80s most people...

Anyone ever seen a strut mount go bad? Not bearing

I'm not sure what Civic bearings look like, but I just changed out the struts on my 03 VW, I'd say that the mounts (rubber disc like things) were compressed to about 60% of their original size. So yes, they can go bad, though Honda might use a separate system. Chasing down squeaks in the...
