The lender on the lease is the manufacture, for three diff brands I have leased. I know for a while GM wasn’t doing their own leases, years ago, but the leases were so horrible I’m sure very very few consumers went this route. They used a realistic residual value.

@alarmguy good info, just want to add the dealer does not own the vehicle…the manufacture does. Not trying to nit pick here. Some dealers never own their inventory, it’s on loan from the manufacturer too.

For me, image has nothing to do with it. I get bored, and simply want to try something new. A side benefit is gaining newer tech, more efficiency, changing brand if I don’t like the service, etc.
Most will be thrown away when the latest greatest comes out. Not too long from now, there will be an “option” to have a traditional steering wheel so you can pretend to drive, but the car will still take over if it senses an unsafe situation. It will be a throw-back, much like manual...
