    Welders

That's just what we need, guys that have never welded anything building trailer hitches... I had a shop in Denver (The Hitch House) install a factory made hitch on a Crown Vic for less than $300 down the road..$300 won't buy a 220 volt Buzz Box..

PS fluid bleeding does not work!

Don't ignore TanSedan's advise about the filter screen inside the reservoir tank. If partially blocked, the pump will moan....

How to change serp. belt on a 98 Wrangler 2.5L -4 cyl.

On the ones I have changed, no bolts need be loosened. The pully arm is free-floating and is under spring tension against the belt. They make special wrenches (they are about 2 feet long) to rotate the spring loaded arm and release the tension from the belt...

    quest for 30 mpg

I recently drove a 1989 20R carbureted, 4-speed standard pick-up, camper shell, 205/75R/14 tires from Boston to Denver. 175,000 miles on the meter. The speed driven was between 70-80 mph, which was pushing it a little. The best mileage was 25mpg and the worst was 22.....Which is exactly the same...

    r-134 Freon prices

A few years ago I had an old '79 Malibu with a leaky compressor seal. Even here in Mexico, R-12 was very expensive. I charged the system with Butane (Mexican LPG) and it worked pretty good but the high/low pressure difference was not very great. So I added a squirt of Propane (from a Coleman...

What are the pros and cons to using Propane as a fuel

I heard a rumor that some people have a 1000 gallon LPG tank behind their house and somehow they manage to re-fuel there vehicles with this tax free home heating fuel...I also heard that there are people with diesel powered vehicles who have discovered that #2 fuel oil is the same product as...

    Auto Tranny Rebuild advice needed

I suspect you might need more than a rebuild kit. The overdrives are fragile as are the free-wheeling sprag clutch that is part of the OD. Clean and inspect everything carefully so you can spot failed/damaged parts and you don't waste your time rebuilding junk....

Where could the oil be going?

There already is an oil trap in the valve cover, the PCV is located in a pretty dry area. A little oil consumption is a GOOD thing, not a BAD thing. That top compression ring will last a lot longer if it sees a little oil!

How Do the newer Jags Run?

I'd go with Cousincletus recommendation and test drive a V-8 Northstar Caddy. 2.5 liters is not a luxury car, it's an econobox. An overhead cam, 4 valve Lotus designed engine (The Northstar) with an interior that is second to none and 300 horses to play with (and it still gets over 20mpg) is...

What Is the Perfect Oil Viscosity?

"The Perfect Viscosity" has nothing to do with oil. It has everything to do with the design of the engine. What might be "Perfect" for one engine will be totally unsuitable for another...If the engine lasts 5000 hours or more, then the viscosity and everything else must have been perfect....

Where could the oil be going?

If your 4.6L Ford only burns one quart in 2000 miles, be happy! It probably really burns a quart every 1000 miles, but be happy anyway because most of them do that. A little "Top Oil" doesn't hurt a thing!

    Blocking off EGR

As RPM increases, flow velocity in the ports and header prevent exhaust backflow and actually help increase efficiency. NOx production is tolerated under these conditions. Brian, it is inertia losses that ultimately limit the RPM in piston engines. Example: Take a 455 cu.in. V-8 with the...

how had is it to replace a windshield?

Take everyones advise...Without a set of special tools, you are doomed to failure. Your old windshield is NOT just going to "pop" out. If you destroy the trim pieces, there goes the $60 you "saved"....You need to work in a glass shop for a month before you try one on your own..And you need the...

    Blocking off EGR

Engine braking is not effected by throttle position..Throttle open or closed, makes no difference. "Pumping losses" increase dramaticly as RPM increases, caused soley by reciprocating mass... Now, would you like to talk about Jake Brakes??

    Blocking off EGR

Brian, forget "pumping losses" because of less intake vacuum. You have forgotten about the energy lost compressing this useless inert gas.. EGR valves reduce engine efficiency. Even detroit got rid of them when they figured out another way. Reciprocating piston engines have "pumping losses"...
