Electric Cars Pass the Tipping Point to Mass Adoption in 31 Countries

Call me crazy, but I'm optimistic this will be the thread on EVs during which someone with a strong pro or con view changes or moderates their opinion.

    Aging Spare Tire

When I replaced my OEM-installed travel trailer tires due to age, I included the spare which spent its whole 6-year life on the spare tire carrier with a cover over it. I should probably think about doing the same with the 13 year old spare tire under my F-150.

2014 Ford Fusion vs 2018 F-150 insurance cost. Does not make sense.

If all else is equal, there's a better chance the insurance company will have to pay to support a disabled driver from a crash in the Fusion than in the F-150. Knock on wood, God forbid, etc.

Transferring Music Files To USB: Why So Slow

As a troubleshooting step, go to a reputable store (or their website if easier) who sells known brand names, and buy a different USB drive from a reputable brand (Sandisk, Kingston, etc). I say this as someone who got a smoking deal on a MicroSD card on Amazon a number of years ago - the...

    Emergency transponder for garage

All I know about this product is from the last couple minutes of google searching and skimming the website, but it looks promising. There are paid options for the app, but it looks like the free version does what you're after. Of course, devices like Apple watches have this functionality built...

    LED lighting. Preferred color temp.

I replaced the bare-bulb lampholder fixtures in my unfinished basement/workout area with some LED fixtures from Costco. They can be set to either warm or bright white using a basic switch - to change from one to the other, I have to turn the switch off, then on again within a few seconds. I do...

Province of Alberta coal plant closure delayed by one year

I haven't been following the project closely, but it could very well be that the coal to natural gas conversion is complete, or nearly complete. Some quick Googling shows the projected timeline was 2021-2024. The plume will persist - just due to a different fuel source.

honda gcv160 lawn mower engine starting from cold

My push mower also has a GCV160 with auto return choke, and I had similar issues from new. I found my way to the following sequence: Actuate the choke lever - it won't start returning until I depress the dead-man lever on the handle. Depress the dead-man lever, and pull the start cord without...

When is it Time to Trade?

Out of pocket repairs sting, but the math rarely supports trading to a newer vehicle as an alternative. You say your truck seems to be the only one depreciating - is that actually true compared to other 2016 pickups? If so, I would suggest figuring out why that is. It makes me think of how...

Is Home Title Insurance really necessary?

Title insurance was recommended by my purchasing realtor on a past purchase, on the basis that I was not having a Real Property Report (RPR) done. As I understood it, having the title insurance provided protection in the event that an issue was discovered in the future regarding setbacks, fence...

    Pulled over - odd reason!

Cosine angle effect is the same for laser or radar, and is negligible under 10 degrees. It causes the speed reading of the target to be understated when the source of the signal is stationary. Radar is still used widely, as laser is only used while stationary.

Miami Herald has article about short life of E.V. tires

How comprehensive was their comparison against ICE vehicles with similar weight, horsepower, and torque curves?

Need help selecting a device for exercise goals

If accuracy is a priority, you want a Polar chest strap. I like the H10. They transmit using Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless protocol, which is quite universal. This means if you get on a stair climber on the gym which is heart rate monitor compatible, it will (should) pick up the signal from the...

Should gas stations be mandated to have chargers as well?

As others have said, the right place to have chargers is adjacent to other shopping, dining, perhaps a gym, etc. - places where people want to spend time, or at least don't mind killing the time it takes to charge. Although I'd be happy it were there in the absence of other options, I don't...

    onboard battery charger question

The answer to your question depends on (at least in part) the net draw from the batteries. If you generally arrive at home with your batteries at/near 100% charge and there isn't anywhere near 6 amps of parasitic/standby draw when parked, your charger should be fine.
