What is being used in bitoger's VW 1.8Ts?

    1) What year is your car? '98 1.8T with Tip, 116k now. 2) Did you have sludge? Yes. Intermittent oil buzzer and finally loss of oil pressure at 98k or so. (I had made the mistake of having one of those hot flush treatments done and it dumped the coked sludge particles into the oil intake...

I have 6oz of Auto-Rx left over, what to do with it?

I put a bit in my coffee every morning to keep my arteries cleared of sludge.

    HELP!! Passat 1.8T Sludgebucket

aeronut: Boy does that make me happy for you! Well done. If it were me I'd run another pattern of ARX clean/rinse to utterly clean it out, then run a maint dose or Lube Control. You really want to scour that engine now that the pump intake screen is cleared. Best to you!

    HELP!! Passat 1.8T Sludgebucket

Aeronut: I have a '98 Passat 1.8T with 113k on it. I purchased it used from the original owner with 70k on it. He had the dealer change the oil, with Castrol GTX of course. Early in '04, at 102k I took it in to a QuickLube place and made the mistake of allowing them to run one of those...

    tiptronic service interval

Ferb: You need the mityvac model that extracts and pumps. It has a switch you push up or down for extraction/pumping. There is a less expensive model that only extracts.

    tiptronic service interval

I strongly recommend changing the fluid and filter earlier than 100k. Mine was mud at that point! A fluid and filter change (around 5.5 qts) at 50-60k seems better, and then dropping and replacing the fluid in the pan (around 3qts) every 40k or so also makes sense with another filter change...

    Auto RX a good idea??

TallPaul: Here's how I read Terry's last post: Auto-Rx is a better dispersant, so excellent for cleaning out sludge, especially layered sludge. LubeControl, because it is anti-oxidant, may be better for the oil itself as it controls pH and dissolves deposits and solids. So LubeControl for...

    accidentally sipped antifreeze

Twoo mush anteefriz wil mek yur brian tun too moosh. No really, if you ingest a lot of ethylene glycol, it will cause brain damage and even death. Gradual (low dose over a long time) poisoning leaves one stupified, the catatonic, then... well, you get the idea. A little in the mouth is no...

Next steps for sludge removal? (long)

Excellent idea with the drain plug, and definitely "outside the box". Every car should have one of those. Once you have that plug you can dump the ARX clean oil yourself, run it through a screen to remove particles, save it, clean the pickup screen, and pour the oil back in.

Next steps for sludge removal? (long)

One thing you could have the mechanics try, and it's something I installed permanently on my '98 Passat 1.8t when I changed the oil pump because of sludge: Have them cut a piece of metal screen (I used metal screen door screen material) and shape it around the oil intake screen bulb, and...

    Auto-RX MEGATHREAD

Vehicle Year/Make/Model: '98 VW Passat 1.8T Miles on vehicle before treatment:102k Condition of vehicle before treatment: Replaced oil pump/turbo due to sludge clogging oil intake screen. Did you deviate from the recommended Auto-RX treatment? If so, how?: What oil did you use for the clean...

VW and Audi oil sludge issues . . .

I'm known as "Mr. Auto-Rx" over on the ClubB5.com forum. After replacing my own oil pump and turbo (DIY) on my '98 1.8t Passat with 100k due to sludge blocking the oil intake screen I started the search for solutions and ended up here and began using ARX. I cleaned the pan out (very crusty and...

VW and Audi oil sludge issues . . .

Among many others I'd like to say "thanks" to Terry Dyson for his practical advice on the forum regarding ARX and LC for the treatment and prevention of sludge and varnish.

    AutoRX Maintenance Dose

I am using a maint dose of ARX (3oz) in my '98 Passat 1.8t, after having done a complete clean/rinse with the full app of ARX. 105k miles on engine. The Valvoline SynPower 5w-40 is remaining quite light honey colored at 2k, whereas before ARX it would have darkened right up within 1k or so...
