Decent balance of Moly and Boron. In fact is seems most additives are up compared to the SN formula with the exception of lower Calcium which should help with LSPI. Oxidation shows this still contains tons of ester. Hopefully it's Noack is still <5.
Fairly low TBN, even for a Euro, so I...
On my '22 A4 I have found an extractor leaves about 1 liter in the pan. Can't get the tube to go any farther down.
The drain plug does use a specialized tool to remove but they can be found online for cheap. I have also reused the plug multiple times without issue going back to our previous...
@Triple Because I don’t want my specific applications to cloud anyone’s recommendations. All we need to assume is both oils are quality offerings from the same company in the same 5W-30 weight (HPL Euro PCMO and HPL Premium Plus PCMO). Nothing about the engines I’m thinking of require anything...
Ok, first off this is not about whether HPL makes good fluids. I use them exclusively in my drivetrain and trans and have gone through a case of no VII in the past as well. I like their stuff.
What I'm wondering is if a timing chain operated gas engine is not LSPI prone, doesn't have fuel...
2023 Audi A4 (TFSI 45 DPAA engine) with 7k miles
Out: Ravenol VMP
In: RL Euro 5w-30. MANN HU 6013z synthetic filter.
Reasoning: the EA888 Gen 3 was spec’d for 5w-40 502, then 5w-30 504, and now 0w-20 508. I’m sticking with the 504 spec for the greater HTHS over 508 and mid SAPS to reduce valve...
For a newer 4Runner with the A750-F 5-speed that calls for Toyota WS. Both fluids look good on paper with maybe a slight nod to Amsoil, and I can get 5 gallons delivered to my door of either for nearly the exact same cost of $294 (yes, I used the BITOG discount and have an Amsoil account). They...
I like me some Ravenol (especially VMP), but this oil seems rather unremarkable. Pretty high Calcium and Magnesium and Moly are quite low. At least it has some Boron… would be interesting to see where it started at.
It would be interesting to see foaming test results for all these oils. Differential fluid can get whipped up into a froth pretty good sometimes, and as we all know air bubbles don’t lubricate very well.
I've been trying the No VII 5w-30 PCMO as it seems to have a good HTHS for the viscosity (3.4 / 10.54 @100 °C). It in theory is also better than either of the 5w-20's in cold weather with a lower pour point and lower CCS and MRV. Good flashpoint too and great viscosity index for not having any...
I've used Ravenol quite a bit since I was turned on to them for my Audi.
I have a new SR5 4Runner and plan on using DGL 75w-85 (factory recommended weight) for the front diff as it's not as stressed, nor used as much, as the rear.
For the transfer case it is ok to use 75w-90 and I am currently...
What does it mean when an oil shows a negative VII number, and therefore a higher HTFS vs HTHS? For example if you plug in Ravenol's SFE you get the following:

KV40
KV100
VI (info)
HTHS
A_Harman index
VII
HTFS (BO DV150)
D341 a
D341 b

How about Ravenol SFE 5W-20? Basically 0W-20 viscosity range with a lowish VI (little VII?), but higher 2.9 HTHS. Low pourpoint. Low NOAK. Seems like good specs all around to replace the typical ILSAC GF-6A 0W-20. That price though...
