High Si and Na on UOA due to Fram A/F?

Results of a 6 month/9K UOA a couple of weeks back were great, other than high Si and slightly elevated Na (road salt). The UOA can be found here: UOA The lab as well as others here on BITOG suggested that I check out the air induction system. As far as I could tell, it was airtight from filter...

this is what happens when you dont change oil often!

Assuming that engine still ran, is there any conceivable way to actually clean that out of there and save the engine, short of tearing it down and cleaning it piece by piece? Where would you start, if it was even worthwhile!? That looks like it might even be beyond the capabilities of the...

    M1 5w30 8750mi 2001 Sebring 2.7L V6

Thanks for all of the suggestions! It is true that they used quite a bit of salt and sand on the roads here this winter. I will have to have a gander at the air intake - I put a new Fram filter on there about 6 months ago and everything looked good at the time, but I'll take a really close look now.

    Sludge motors

Yup, as VNT said, the Sebring/Stratus have the engines mounted transverse and the LH car are North-South. In the transverse case I would think it would lead to more heat in the rear bank of cylinders. I do believe that the 3.2 and 3.5 have external, accessory belt driven water pumps though...

    M1 5w30 8750mi 2001 Sebring 2.7L V6

This UOA was done after 6 months of mostly highway commuting. Filter was a Fram X2 and the car had about 62400 miles when the oil went in. No makeup oil added during the OCI. CONTAMINATION Silicon 31 Potassium 0 Sodium 1.6 Fuel % Glycol -- Water % Soot % -- Sulfation 90 Nitration 90 OIL...

    Sludge motors

I wonder about the root cause of the sludge on these engines, if not poor maintenance by the owners. Almost a year ago I got a 2001 Sebring with the 2.7. It had about 48K miles on it when I bought it, not knowing about the potential sludge issue at the time. When I found out about the sludge, I...

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

1997 Neon, 2.0 DOHC traded in almost a year ago with about 155K miles on it. I bought it used with about 40K. It lived on a few brands of 5W-30 dino changed every 3K: Havoline, Shell, Esso, dealer bulk. Filters were mostly ST or Mopar (I suspect those were Frams) when the winter made it...

TriboTech Trans Addictive totally destroyed my auto trans !

Car #2 for me is a 99 Accent. Not sure if we are talking about a car with the same type of trans or not, but the 4 spd in the Accent calls for ATF +3. Knowing how the A604/41TE tend to hate anything other than plain, fresh, unaltered ATF+3/4, I would be very reluctant to add any other type of...

    New filter pics (FWIW)

Wow... Looks like metal end caps do not a good filter make! There's a lot more to the equation. Makes me wonder about Fram's only reasonably good looking filter... Lubeowner, have you delved into any Fram X2 filters to see how they're holding up?

    Quaker State oil filters

I believe the newer white painted QS filters are Purolators and the older green painted ones are Frams.

    Oil sludge

First post! Is this recommendation for 2005 and onwards models only, or are they recommending 5w-20 for previous models of the 2.7? (I have a 2001)
