Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

In comparing Mobil 1 10w-40 with delvac 1 5w-40 i found HTHS for latter but not the former. In the published PDS anyway. Anyone find HTHS for the 10w-40? I thought it would be amusing to test the "oil for diesels has better HTHS" theory .. for oils of the same 100 c viscosity classification

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

Now we're back on topic. I think those who target a ck4 oil for ope aren't generally choosing the junk they are choosing all fleet variety. At least that's how I read the use of delvac 1 Granted some will run whatever is on hand but for me I would rather protect my investment and the delvac...

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

Sounds like its a good thing no one puts T6 in a Civic then! There are those who use T6 because it meets cummins ces 20086 though. And dont overlook the fact that many ck-4 oils DO meet SN and even SP and satisfy ope warranty requirements...

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

I'm not sure what your point is. The suitability of a ck-4 oil for ise in an air cooled ope engine has very little to do with the suitability of a ck-4 oil in an automobile engine.

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

The short answer is that T6, as well as many other ck-4 oils, are not SP rated and fail to meet warranty requirements of late model gas engines.

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

Ok so in summary, the 3 most important benefits of a ck-4 oil over an SP/GF-6 are: 1. Better sheer stability at high temps. 2. Better sheer stability at high temps. 3. Better sheer stability at high temps! 😇😇

    Oil for 6.7L Cummins

    2nd the T6 that's what i use in my 22 ram 3500.

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

High compression ratios for sure. Sheer stability at high temps that's for sure gonna be better. Soot is a don't care. My comment above was directed at SP and GF-6 oils though! Like soot, GF-6 is better but not better in ways that are important!

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

Oh that's for sure I dont care about fuel economy and the latest SP and GF-6 ratings make the oil better, but not better im areas that are important! John deere 10w30 turf gard for example meets those specs to which i ask "why? "

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

Im sure yourr right in some cases but Not entirely. Cummins 6.7L moved to 5w-40 with an engine change unrelated to climate Yea for sure. And not many lawnmower engines are susceptible to pre ignition and the benefits of SP! agreed there. And the fill volume is so small in many cases that...

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

For conventional oils the higher HTHS is understandable just due to the viscocity rating. Its also worth noting that most (newer) gas cars will not allow 40 or even 15w for that matter. and the newer diesels are requiring 5w-40! So nothing inherent to CK-4 itself other than cts at 100c? On...

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

High cylinder temps for sure. Detergency is higher ok tracking that. How does a diesel oil reduce consumption or is that just your experience

Ck-4 oil in a 4 cycle air cooled engine

Hi Enjoyed the discussion of using diesel rated oil in a gas lawnmower. My journey and ultimate reasons for choosing delvac 5w-40 in my john deere x370 might be different from yours. So let me ask: those of you using a diesel oil in your OPE-- why did you make this choice as opposed to an...

John deere 50 plus II 5W-40

Yea you got that right. My cummins would tho and I like the idea of one oil for both

John deere 50 plus II 5W-40

Looks like I was missing delvac esp! I just might switch my Ram truck over to delvac esp 5w-40 and use it in the 370 as well. Checks all the boxes including the coolaid one! Can't imagine john deere 50 plus II 5W-40 outperforming delvac esp 5w-40
