    Proactive replacement of TPMS sensors?

Yeah I was surprised that two were dead and the other two were on their way out. Maybe it was a 'bad batch' from the factory. Regardless I was surprised that they need replacing within 5 years.

Bacon: which kind do you prefer?

Thick cut. I sometimes wet cure and hot smoke my own, which comes out amazing. I use a simple cure solution and let it sit in the cure for 7-14 days in the fridge. I also smoke it at a low temperature, which allows plenty of flavor to penetrate the meat. Smoked to 151F so effectively it's...

    Proactive replacement of TPMS sensors?

I must be unlucky, all 4 of my TPMS sensors are showing dead battery or almost dead battery, and my CX-5 is ~5 years old and has ~50k miles. I'm putting up with the TPMS light until either I have a spare ~$250 to get all of the sensors replaced at Costco, or when I need new tires. The first...

2020 Mazda CX5 Out: Generic CAF from Amazon (2 of 3) In: Generic CAF from Amazon (3 of 3) The filter has been in for 13 months and 11659 Miles. I changed it because I noticed during a drive today that the air flow from the AC was noticeably impeded. I would have sworn I changed this more...

    Mazda CX-5 Oil Filter Question

Interesting. I wonder if that's a later model/2024 thing? The plot thickens since here's the listing from NGK for my 2020, which lists the same plug part you showed. Neither the summary nor the detailed page has anything about CD listed.

    Mazda CX-5 Oil Filter Question

Well, that's valuable information, but also incredibly annoying. Though at least locally, they don't seem to be particularly expensive, which is a plus.

    Mazda CX-5 Oil Filter Question

Are you expecting a specific plug related to cylinder deactivation? When I enter the info on NGK's website for my CX5, they list the expected spark plugs in their parts lookup catalog.

Air filter at 40k miles vs new Honda OEM.

How many miles on the dirty filter? Duh, its in the thread title, guess I need more coffee. I know my engine filters look way more filthy than that after 25k in the Mazda 2.5L but also there's always all kinds of nasty crap in the air in the STL area. 40k doesn't really seem excessive from...

Factory fill washer fluids smell so good

Is it me, or did washer fluid used to have scent added to it? Some smelled better than others. Maybe I'm imagining it. I seem to remember some brands would have a scent, but it seems like none do.

The Smith System of Defensive driving

Yep, something I strongly adapted to (aside from the list in the first post) after moving to the STL area ten years ago. Yeesh.

Saw my first Hummer EV Pickup on Thanksgiving Day - Nice!

I saw one either on Thanksgiving Eve or Black Friday. I can't remember which, though. It was in the evening, then the front lights were pretty neat, and I agree; it was pretty cool-looking. I have no idea which edition I saw.

    Insane CA DMV Registration Tax

Yep, my property tax bill for the last few years on my CX5. Missouri is an expensive state to own a vehicle. 2021: 704 2022: 843 (thanks to the insane prices of used cars around this time) 2023: 720 2024: 635

2020 GM 1.5T engine tear down

I don't know if you're a regular viewer, but that's the overriding theme of the "I do cars" teardowns. It isn't always the case, but I'd say it's the majority. Also: "Check your oil once in a while."
