Take a second look in your owners manual. dexos1 "approved" oil is not "required" to keep your new car warranty intact. This is one of the newest consumer myths that have people fooled.
Marketers at GM hit this one on the head; people assuming they must use their approved oil or else.

Well I wouldn’t be so quick to condemn the equipment as many variables can be a play and many of these models on the road. A few oil fill pics HERE, some Honda 3.5. The OP may be on the right track with the move to the Mobil product, the vendor in which Honda uses.
I would say those pics look vary similar to my 1.6L VTEC at three month oil change interval(s) with a major conventional motor oil brand; varnish, deposits, etc.
Looks like to date, Castrol, Valvoline, ConocoPhillips, and Amsoil have taken a stance to NOT officially license GM dexos but will make products that meet or exceed the specifications.
