I copy that I'll have less soot coming from the EGR, I'm just worried about the soot I'm generating in the cylinder. I have been using Mobil 1 European formula, but its safety data sheet doesn't mention calcium, which got me wondering if a HD oil might better suit my application.
I have no idea. It seems to be pretty common.
The engine was swapped into an older vehicle with just a pipe and a muffler behind the turbo. The EGR did fall off in all the buzz.

I have an om606.962 that came from a W210. If I'm not mistaken, MB recommends a 229.51-spec oil for this application, which is what I've stuck to in the past. This is an indirect-injected turbocharged diesel with a compression ratio of 21.5:1.
