    Old Bike, Old Oil

Nice looking bike! My Japanese air cooled engines (inline 4's) from the 80s call for 20w40 in the manual in normal riding season temps I use 20w50 and call it good. I looked up the oil change interval for that bike, looks like 4200 mi. I'd start with conventional and see how it goes...

Harley has a NEW High Zinc Motorcycle Oil!

What gas mileage are you getting with the 1300 cc triple on the spider? I'm gathering you got rid of the F3S because it's more cruiser/ less touring capacity compared to the one you have now?

Hawk 250 - Added spin-on filter, trying to figure out new oil change intervals

How do you check the oil level on that bike? Sight glass, dipstick? Depending where the cooler is you could get drain back and get an artificially high oil level that will come down as the cooler fills. If that makes sense. As well, don't fill it to the proper level and then run it with a...

In any case, it is fascinating discussion with the level of detail the OP is providing and going through to check pressures, temperatures etc.

Hawk 250 - Added spin-on filter, trying to figure out new oil change intervals

A quick search shows 15w40 is recommended and that is what he is running based on his first post (T4 15w40). Looks like the recommended oil change in general is right around 500 miles, he runs it between 400 and 600 miles based on the first post.

SUPER TECH 20w-50 synthetic motorcycle oil VOA

Pulled the trigger and put an air fuel ratio gauge on my ZRX 1200. Which currently has Supertech 20w50 MC in the sump. In the past 3 days I've made (11) 10,000 RPM second gear runs checking the proper main jet size at wide open throttle and at 50% throttle up to that RPM. Numerous more roll-ons...

Hawk 250 - Added spin-on filter, trying to figure out new oil change intervals

In the original post, you indicated 400-600 miles between changes. Also stated that an oil cooler gave you 50 to 100 miles more on an oil change. What was that metric you gauged the small increase on, such as element of shift quality? Mechanical Shear is mechanical shear, IMO, oil cooler does...

Hawk 250 - Added spin-on filter, trying to figure out new oil change intervals

In the grand scheme of things cut open the filter, see what it looks like. Run a magnetic drain plug and see if there's anything on it. If the filter looks good and the magnetic drain plug looks good, other than a bit of pasty grey smeg from micro particles of normal wear, the bike is doing great.

Blackstone Results for Amsoil 5w40 Metric Motorcycle in my 2022 Can-Am Spyder RT S2S

5w40 is viscosity loss and shear in a bottle. I can't recall analysis where 5w40 in a shared sump held up better than a high quality 10w40. 5,930 miles in a shared sump is a stressful environment. I would be interested in the more stressful environment where that oil stayed in grade for the...

Car/Motorcycle Accident in Vancouver, BC - Cycle Ends Up on Traffic Light Stanchion

There are outliers and then there's realism. Weather the outliers are from lack of experience on the road in general in any vehicle, and are weighing in on something they have no concept of or are just trolling, 85 mph is a ridiculous estimate lol.
