My question would be why 5W50? You mention Australia, is extreme heat in the cards? I would run 10w40 or 15w40 in the scooter and be good to go. The XMax is liquid cooled and it’s not a shared sump. Should help maintain stable oil temps and resist shearing to some extent. Yes, 10w40 or 15w40.

Of course X-rings are favored now but the O-ring chain wasn’t sapping the life out of anything. When considering the difference, even if a high percentage, you could ride the same bike back to back with an O-ring chain versus an X-ring chain and not tell me which one you were on for a $50 bet...

That’s popular as a bicycle chain lube, first time I’ve heard it mentioned for cycles, but why not, should work. Green version is the more viscous vs the yellow. I have a small bottle of it in my tool kit on the mountain bike.

When I envision what you are describing, I see the lube getting inside the rollers and pins and supplanting the factory lube that the x/o rings are there to keep sealed in?

First, are you running a sealed chain or regular roller chain? The lubes job is to keep the O-rings and the X rings protected which allows the original lubricant to stay inside of the rollers. Has nothing to do with chain sliding better on anything... Chainsaw bar oil will sure protect the...

Apologies I didn’t respond sooner. Yes the Honda HP Moly in the picture. As has been shared, Motul chain paste isn’t bad, keep a tube of that under my seat for emergency use on the road. Pretty good stuff as well. However it is not as low-fling as the Honda HP in my experience.

Honestly, no fling-off to speak of makes it the best to my mind.
